Sibley not included in the first edition of the same year; 8vo 32pp. original yellow printed wrappers; wrappers curled and soiled some chipping and edge creases; a good copy of an early piece of Minnesota printing done by Minnesota's first printer and in only the second year of printing in the newly organized territory. Includes the original Act to Incorporate Constitution By-Laws list of members and the text of an address by Minnesota's first historian the Rev. Edward D.Neil concluding with the words "As the second edition of the Annals is going through the press the news is received that a party of Dakotas from Kaposia and Red Wing villages have made an attack on some unsuspecting Ojibwas and taken a boy as a captive and fourteen scalps. Upon their return they danced the scalp-dance in the streets of Stillwater. The captive being placed in the center of the ring formed by the dancers the reeking scalps of his relatives were occasionally shaken in his face." This copy with the scrawled signature of Prof. W.M. ‎Minneapolis: City of Minneapolis 1890. WYSIWYG pricing--no added shipping charge for standard shipping within USA. Printed by Harrison & Smith. Black pebble-grained cloth with leather back & corners gilt titles & decorations vi 478 pp 1 folding table 1 folding plate 14 other plates. Four of the plates are missing otherwise good leather rubbed through at corners a few marginal tears but still solidly bound. The 1880s were a period of rapid growth for the city of Minneapolis and a prosperous time for the country as a whole. The city undertook major public works projects during this time including development of the water works and sewer system acquisition of land for parks in advance of development and construction of the first Minneapolis Public Library building at 10th & Hennepin as well as the combined city hall and county courthouse. The latter building is still in use as city hall although the county courthouse across the street to a new building decades ago. Both buildings are depicted by line cuts in the preliminary pages. There are also three half-tone photos of the new north side pumping station and line cuts with details of the sewer system but the maps of the water and sewer systems are missing. Contents: Introductory section contains names of city officers and aldermen salaries for city employees from $480 per year for a janitor to $4500 per year for the city attorney and city engineer and addresses by outgoing mayor H. H. Ames and incoming mayor E. C. Babb.
