Ca. 1920s. 11 x 8.75 inch pamphlet describing and picturing five types of clay roofing tile: California Spanish Tile; Escornada Tile; Medium Sierra; California Pan Tile; Italian Pan Tile. Diagrams show the design features of individual tiles while line drawings depict their appearance when assembled on the gable of a roof. The pamphlet states of the tiles: "they are without question not only the most beautiful of all roofing materials but also the most practical. More than this the tiles will outlast the very building they cover." The pamphlet's color cover pictures a lovely Mediterranean-style home prior to a collapse brought on by the weight of the clay tile roof. . California Pottery Company. unknown

"The well known 'Raymond' granite quarries near Raymond in Madera County not only are and have been for a number of years the most important mineral industry of the county but they are also an important factor in the state's production. As has already been noted. these deposits of workable building stone are located in the western edge of the Sierra foothills. There are two quarries about 1 mile apart circa 1914 on the east side of a small valley about 2 miles east of Raymond which is the terminus of the Berenda-Raymond branch of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Both quarries are served by spur tracks from this branch line. It is now recognized that this stone is not excelled by any other building granite found either in this state or elsewhere. It is noted for its beautiful white color the fineness and uniformity of its texture its weathering qualities and its freeness in working. As to this last named feature it lends itself readily to all classes of fine structural carving." 1998 Observer: "Raymond is an interesting little place. It used to be a large bustling town in the late 1800s because a railroad spur was built to it and stage coaches were used to carry passengers to Yosemite. Later another railroad track was built in from Merced in 1907 and Raymond lost all of the tourist business to Yosemite. Of all the buildings built then only a few are left; and everything built for the railroad is gone except for a monument across the street from the store about the Wild Cat Station Raymond CA. There is another monument in front of Hills Pride Inn about the town of Knowles. Luckily for Raymond someone had discovered the granite nearby in 1886 so the granite business helped keep Raymond alive - only the town didn't flourish as much as during the Yosemite times. L’opera, con testo su due colonne, molto ben illustrata da tavole inc. in rame e numerate (poste al fine dei volumi) è così composta: - "Storia delle Antille" e delle colonie francesi, spagnuole, inglesi, danesi e svedesi, di Elia Regnault, pp. 172, (incluso l’Indice), con 4 tavole + 1 cartina geografica, ripieg. - "Possedimenti inglesi dell’America Settentrionale: Canada, Nuovo Brunswick, Nuova Scozia, Acadia", di Federico Lacroix, pp. 172 (Indice incluso), con 16 tavole dedicate al Canada (vedute, monumenti, usi e costumi degli indiani). - "Californie", Oregon e possedimenti russi in America, isole Noutka e della Regina Carlotta. Di Ferdinando Denys, pp. 124. La parte relativa alla "Continuazione degli Stati Uniti" dal 1812 fino ai giorni nostri, di Elia Regnault, di pp. 198 (Indice incluso) ma priva delle 8 tavole, è stata inserita in un altro volume - dedicato all’"Africa" - che qui uniamo. Si tratta di: - "Africa Australe" (Colonia del Capo di Buona Speranza) - "Africa Orientale" (Mozambico, Monomotapa, Gallas, Cordovan, ecc.) - "Africa Centrale" (Darfur, Sudan, Bornu, Tombuctu, grande deserto di Sahara; manca l’Impero del Marocco) e relativa Appendice, di Ferdinando Hoefer, pp. 277, con 17 (su 20) tavole dedicate a: Madera, Canarie, Isole del Capo Verde, dell’Ascensione, di Sant’Elena + 6 tavole dedicate a sculture di Ninive. Entrambi i volumi fanno parte della Collana “L’Universo o Storia e descrizione di tutti i popoli, loro religioni, costumi, usanze, ecc.”. Solo quello sull’Africa con aloni alle prime 50 carte, altrimenti fresco esemplare ben conservato.
