D'abord attribuée à un évêque irlandais Georges Berkeley, la paternité de cette utopie a été rendue à un prêtre catholique, Simon Berington (1680-1755). La première édition, The Memoirs of Sigr. Gaudentio di Lucca, publiée à Londres en 1737, fut traduite en français, pour la première fois, neuf ans plus tard, par Miltz, traduction revue par le chevalier de Saint-Germain. Cet ouvrage, publié sous le voile de l'anonyme, constitue un des best-sellers du XVIIIe siècle, comme l'attestent ses nombreuses rééditions et traductions. Les Mémoires de Gaudentio se présentent sous la forme d'un récit-confession devant les pères de l'Inquisition de Bologne. Le héros raconte son voyage au pays des Mezzoraniens, en Afrique équatoriale. Il décrit l'histoire et les mœurs de ce peuple, descendant des anciens Égyptiens, et leur société de type communiste. Pour cette utopie, publiée onze ans après les Gulliver’s Travels de Swift, l'auteur s'inspire principalement de la Civitas Solis (1623) de Tommaso Campanella et l'Histoire des Sévarambes (1677-1679) de Denis Vairasse. ‎"Édition originale de ce projet de réforme fiscale. Fils d'un négociant de Reims, Simon Clicquot Blervache, (1723-1796), futur inspecteur des manufactures et du commerce, développe ses idées théoriques et pratiques en matière économique, dans une série de textes publiés essentiellement dans les années 1750. Sous le l'ambitieux - et ""Bernhardien"" - titre du Réformateur, Clicquot propose de doubler les revenus du roi en modifiant totalement le système fiscal. Il s'agirait de supprimer les multiples impositions (taille, capitation, etc.) pour les remplacer par un unique impôt du vingtième ""à lever en nature sur tous les fruits de la terre"" et s'appliquant à tous. Son projet se présente comme un appel au roi : ""Sa Majesté y verra le tableau fidele des desordres qui accablent un peuple qu'elle aime & dont elle est aimée, elle y trouvera aussi le moyen de remédier à ces désordres"" L'auteur, célébrant la Dixme royale de Vauban, propose en outre de nationaliser les salines, mais aussi de supprimer 24 fêtes chômées, non seulement les travailleurs gagneraient plus, mais ils épargneraient ""en n'allant point au cabaret"". Le Réformateur rémois propose encore de réguler le commerce du blé, en augmentant son prix de vente, mais en maintenant toujours celui-ci entre 15 et 18 livres le septier à Paris et de 10 à 13 en province. Il se prononce également pour la suppression sans appel des monastères et la récupération de leurs revenus, ""l'Etat Monastique renfermant un grand nombre de célibataires & d'hommes inutiles"". ‎The very rare first edition of Ohm's first work, which actually laid the foundation for his career and gave him the opportunity of working as a scientist. The work was printed eight years before his first scientific paper, (""Vorläufige Anzeige des Gesetzes, nach welchem Metalle de Contakt-elektrizität leiten"", 1825, which contained for the first time the original research that was to immortalize his name). The German physicist Georg Simon Ohm (1789 -1854), who later became famous for having established the fundamental relationship between voltage, current, and resistance, and thereby founding electrical circuit analysis (all based on what has ever since Ohm been known as ""Ohm's Law""), was solidly educated in mathematics, physics, chemistry and philosophy by his very skilled autodidact father. From 1800 to 1805 Ohm attended the Erlangen Gymnasium, after which he attended the University of Erlangen for three years, until his father withdrew him and placed him in exile in Switzerland, because he was so dissatisfied with him wasting his scientific abilities"" -Georg Ohm was primarily interested in dancing, billiards and ice skating. He then became a mathematics teacher in Gottstadt bei Nydau, and in 1809 he went to Neuchâtel for two years as a private teacher, although he would have preferred to follow Karl Christian von Langensdorf to Heidelberg to restart his mathematical studies. Langendorf, however, advised Ohm to study mathematics on his own and to read the works of Euler, Laplace and Lacroix, which he did. In 1811 Ohm returned to the University of Erlangen, where he received his PhD. He now taught as a Privatdozent for three semesters, but he could not advance and made almost no money, so he was forced to seek employment from the Bavarian government. The best position that he was offered was that of a teacher of mathematics and physics at a poor quality, low-prestige Realschule in Bamberg, where he stayed with great dissatisfaction for three years, until the school got closed down in March 1816. He was now assigned to teach a section of mathematics at another overcrowded and ill reputed school in Bamberg. During these years, Georg Ohm felt very unhappy with his position and realized that he had to do something to improve his merits in order to get out of Bamberg and have hopes to find a better post. And thus, he undertook the writing of his first work, the elementary geometry text, which was to prove his true abilities. Ohm sent the manuscript to King Wilhelm III of Prussia, and in 1817 he was offered the position of Oberlehrer of mathematics and physics at the recently reformed Jesuit Gymnasium at Cologne. This was a very good school, which was based on the ideals of proper scientific education and enthusiasm for learning and teaching, and it was this position that stimulated Ohm to seriously concern himself with physics which he had never done before. The physics lab was very well equipped , and Ohm could now devote himself to experimenting on physics.""Ohm's fist work was an elementary geometry text, ""Grundlinien..."" which embodied his ideals on the role of mathematics in education. The student, he believed, should learn mathematics as if it were the free product of his own mind, not as a finished product imposed from without. Ideally, by fostering the conviction that the highest life is that devoted to pure knowledge, education should create a self-respect capable of withstanding all vicissitudes in one's external circumstances. One detects in these sentiments the reflection not only of his own early education but also of the years of isolation in Switzerland and of personal and intellectual deprivation of Bamberg. ‎First appearence of a major paper in 19th century electrical theory, breaking new ground in associating an electric tension with both open and closed galvanic circuits, unifying the theory of Galvanic electricity, and containing Ohm's Law in the simpler and last form.""Ohm's second major paper of 1826 announced the beginnings of a comprehensive theory of galvanic electricity based, he said, on the fact that the contact of heterogenous bodies produced and maintained a constant electric tension (Spannung). Med en krakelering i midten af ryggen der er repareret, ligesom kapitæler og false. Kobberstukket portræt af Paulli (efter Karel van Mander), kobberstukket titelblad afbildende gudinden Flora siddende i en portal hvorigennem der er udsigt til byens tårne (disse to kobbere tæt beskåret i ene margin og opklæbet). De 4 deltitelblade med de såkaldte årstidkobbere mangler. (36),(786 (= fol 1-393)),(94) pp. samt 376 helsides træsnit af planter på 188 blade. De 4 deltitelblade som hører til billeddelen er tilstede.Til slut kolofonbladet med Plantin's helsides træskårne bogtrykkermærke. Billeddelen har tilskrifter i gl. hånd med danske navne og undertiden anføres deres brug. Marginalnoterne er her tæt beskåret ved ombindingen. Trykt på svært papir, eksemplaret er i god stand med kun lette brugsspor. Registerbladene (94) omfatter 4 registre, 3 sprogregistre (latin, tysk, dansk) og et ""sygdomsregister"".‎

‎Den sjældne originaludgave af det første danske Herbarium, der som titelbladet angiver både skulle tjene som en botanik, men også som en lægebog. Bogen er et af 16oo-tallets finest udstyrede danske værker. I et brev dateret 1645 opfordrer Christian IV Collegium Medicum til at forfatte et værk, som skulle indeholde allehånde råd mod sygdomme, og oplysning om, hvor folk kunne finde urterne således at de uden de store omkostninger kunne kurere sig selv når sygdom opstod. Kollegiet overdrog opgaven hermed til Simon Paulli. En af grundene til, at bogen kom i et så fint udstyr er, at forlæggeren Balthasar Moret fra Plantin-trykkeriet i Antwerpen overlod de af ham ejede botaniske træsnit, som tidligere havde været anvendt i Tabermontanus' værker, til bogens illustrationsdel.
