Desde finales del siglo XIX los empresarios agrarios estadounidenses han buscado incrementar la rentabilidad de sus explotaciones a trav�s del empleo de mano de obra for�nea disciplinada y no sindicalizada. Un siglo de pol�ticas de criminalizaci�n de la inmigraci�n ilegal y permisi�n del empleo de mano de obra indocumentada han generado un mercado laboral agrario extremadamente irregular. M�s de la mitad de los trabajadores empleados en la agricultura estadounidense son indocumentados e hicieron uso de documentaci�n fraudulenta para obtener su empleo. El cruce fronterizo subrepticio de jornaleros tamaulipecos aparece propiciado tanto por factores intervinientes erguidos del lado de la oferta laboral crisis del sector agrario subempleo desempleo e influencia de las redes migratorias como por factores que act�an del lado de la demanda. Sin el incentivo pro-activo subvencionando el tr�fico de ilegales o pasivo dando empleo a trabajadores cuyos nombres y n�meros de Seguridad Social no concuerdan con los datos del Servicio de Verificaci�n de Enumeraci�n de la SSA de los empleadores este flujo migratorio ser�a mucho menor. La emigraci�n ha contribuido a una mejora de la econom�a rural tamaulipeca; pero ha creado una dependencia. La emigraci�n genera m�s emigraci�n que se sostiene a trav�s de las redes migratorias tejidas. Las remesas deben ser renovadas peri�dicamente por medio de la emigraci�n encade-nada de diferentes generaciones. As� el medio de subsistencia de los hijos termina imitando el modo del padre: la emigraci�n internacional irregular con el sinn�mero de miserias y dificultades que acarrea cruzar la frontera y permanecer sin documentos en Estados Unidos.
