Montreal: Canadian Pacific Railway 1874. Very Good; laid down on acid-free tissue paper for long-term preservation. Notes: A very important and early working map of Alberta and British Columbia depicting existing and suggested railways.<br>There is a note written in period ink in the lower margin in reference to a contemporary marking of newly suggested routes in black ink:<br><br>"Note -- The Surveys made since the publication of the Report & Maps of 1874 shew the routes colored full black line and thus broken black line to be the best lines for railway construction that have been found to this date Oct 1875. Mr. Smith".<br><br>"Mr. Smith" is believed to be Donald A. Smith a major partner in the yet-to-be incorporated Canadian Pacific Railway Company in 1881. <br><br>The routes marked out in red as printed depict potential lines crossing the Rockies to the west of Edmonton at Yellowhead Pass. Almost none of the suggested routes depicted on this map were eventually used--CPR dismissed the use of Yellowhead Pass for a pass farther south in order to discourage competition from railway lines south of the border. They chose instead Kicking Horse Pass which is depicted on this map. Montreal 1883. receipt. Invoice to the Canadian Pacific Railway dated 9th May 1883 for hose couplings and oil cups. approximately 21 X 21 CM folded twice. Several tears along folds. Several stamps with signature or initials on front and note in ink on verso signed and dated by F. G. Shaughnessey. Thomas George Shaughnessy 1853-1923 1st Baron Shaughnessy was president of the Canadin Pacific railway from 1899-1918. 1883 unknown
Canadian Pacific Railway 1927. Softcover. very good. 8pp. Quarto. Green card stock with original painting and manuscript lettering on front wrapper. 5 more tempera and india ink paintings and border decorations. Wear to spine and slight wear to corners. Slight paint transfer from images to opposite pages and first painting has some smudging in top corner. very good A dummy brochure consisting of 6 paintings: one train one CPR logo and 4 decorative borders that would later include text or photo illustrations. Possibly intended to contain information on Western Canada due to the pine tree and mountain imagery. Front cover illustration is signed by Glidden Second image signed WC27. The only original manuscript template for a CPR brochure we have ever encountered. The front illustration is beautifully done and with internal illustrations having an art deco feel. We are unsure if the finished product was ever published. 1927 Canadian Pacific Railway paperback

Illustrated paper binding is moderately to heavily torn chipped and wrinkled at the edges but is quite clean and is fully intact. There is no text except the title of each photograph. Canada: Canadian Pacific Railway/CPR Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Published c. 1888. 16-page brochure/booklet in stiff card covers with braided cord tie binding. Dimensions: 175x138mm. Illustrated. Spine fold split at bottom. A very good slightly soiled copy of this rare prospectus/marketing brochure describing the route and variations from Toronto to Montreal and southeast to the Maine coast. Numerous legs are described including Thousand Island and Ottawa River excursions by steamboat. A fascinating piece which includes illustrations of car interiors and landscapes. CPR bought trackage rights on the Maine Central Railroad further south than the IRM link it built to Saint John NB in 1889. According to this prospectus: "The Canadian Pacific Railway will on the 3rd July inaugurate a through line of Sleeping and Parlour cars between Toronto the White mountains Old Orchard Beach and Portland Me." Stamped on back and title page by "Nixon & Co. Passenger Agents 7 Royal Arcade Newcastle Exhibition Stands No. 147-148". Contains Arcade Booking Office advertisement folded over with top edge glued to title page.
