Avg: 10-3/4" x 13-1/2" <br/><br/>The Santa Fe railway was chartered on February 11 1859 to join Atchison and Topeka Kansas with Santa Fe New Mexico. In its early years the railroad opened Kansas to settlement. Because long stretches of its main line traverse areas without water Santa Fe was one of the first buyers of diesel locomotives for freight service. It was the Santa Fe Railway that helped to make Baldwin Locomotives obsolete. ‘Held at 132 Gresham House Old Broad Street London on Tuesday 18th December 1906’. The Bengal Nagpur Railway Company was formed in 1887 and continued until 1952 when it merged with the East Indian Railway Company to form the Eastern Railway. The present item is 4pp 4to. Bifolium. Printed in small type in double column. In good condition lightly aged with one central vertical fold. Excessively scarce: no other copy traced either on WorldCat JISC or ViaLibri. The business of the meeting includes ‘receiving the Directors’ Report and Audited Statements of Accounts and Balance Sheet to 30th June 1906 and the Auditors’ Report thereon’. The chairman Sir Samuel Hoare gives details of ‘new lines now under construction’: ‘On the Gondia-Chanda line the portion from Gondia to Nagbeer and from Nagbeer to Nagpur a distance of 157 miles is almost complete and platelaying is about to commence. Earthwork has recently been started on the Nagbeer-Chanda section length of 66 miles. It is hoped that a considerable portion of the line will be opened for traffic by March 1908. / The work on the Purulia-Ranchi line is well advanced . The construction work on the first 50 miles from Vizianagram of the Rajpur-Vizianagram line’. Other topics include ‘the ghats on the Neinpur-Bilaspur Line’ revenue working expenses gross earnings the ‘increase in coaching traffic’ the ‘recent opening by the Viceroy on 6th December of the Grand Chord Line of the East Indian Railway’ the ‘increase in first and second-class passenger traffic’ goods traffic the price of coal new machinery. First edition. 7 5/8" x 5 1/4" gray wrappers printed in green and black 32 pp. illustrated from photographs map. Map is folded and is 9 1/2" x 12 3/4" and is titled "Map Of The Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway and Connections." All railway routes are outlined in red. The Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway owns and operates over 6600 miles of thoroughly equipped road in Illinois Wisconsin Iowa Minnesota South Dakota North Dakota Missouri and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Brule County South Dakota is situated in the heart of the famous Missouri River Valley being bounded on the west by the Missouri River on the south by Charles Mix County on the east by Aurora County and on the north by Buffalo County. Jerauld County joins Brule on the northeast corner. Views of farms cattle and sheep ranches and Chamberlain a town in the county. They promote plenty of water for farming as sourced by the Missouri River and numerous artesian wells that are scattered over the county. In addition to livestock production there is much wheat corn oats dairy products orchards etc. due to the fertile ground water climate and availability to markets. In addition to Chamberlain the county seat the towns of Pukwanaand Kimball are touted as being good places to live. Covers lightly soiled a faint vertical crease a tiny old water spot to the bottom margins of the front cover and the first page a tiny bit of penciled under lining else a very good copy. Rand-McNally-Co 1898. String tied wraps. Very good. 3.5" x 4.5" pp.8 map showing stops between Chicago & Minneapolis. 7 photographs. Light dust soil to covers top corner lightly bumped. -- Condition. "The Pioneer Limited name first appeared in 1898 chosen in a public contest. It was among the nation's first named trains and the first named train on the Milwaukee Road. The 1898 train was newly equipped with Barney & Smith sleeping cars the carriages described in a period brochure as ".a veritable edition de luxe bound in covers of yellow and gold." The train was re-equipped multiple times in subsequent years the last wooden cars being replaced by steel ones in 1914. During the train's early years the Pioneer Limited had a number of "firsts": it had the first government railway mail contract in the region the first sleeping cars on the route and was the region's first electrically lighted and steam-heated train. the Pioneer Limited was also noted for its dining car service"-wikipedia.
