In Japan war er von 1937 bis 1947 Lektor für deutsche Sprache und Dozent für deutsche Literatur an japanischen Schulen, auch an der Kaiserlichen Universität Tokyo. In Stuttgart angelangt nach einer fünfwöchigen Seereise aus Japan, arbeitete er zunächst in der Württembergischen Landesbibliothek. Die Habilitation in ostasiatischer Kunstgeschichte erlangte er im Jahre 1948. Im gleichen Jahr wurde er Privatdozent an der Universität Heidelberg. ... (wiki) // Hariti (jap. Karitei) ist eine weibliche Gottheit oder Dämonin aus vorbuddhistischer Zeit, die als Beschützerin der Kinder Eingang in die Mythologie des Mahayana-Buddhismus fand. Besonders bekannt ist sie in Ostasien bei den Anhängern des Nichiren-Buddhismus und des Lotos-Sutra. ? (wiki) // ... Kariteimo erscheint in der Kunst aller süd- und ostasiatischen Völker in mehr oder weniger zahlreichen Darstellungen. Meist sehen wir sie von einigen Kindern umgeben - häufig sind es fünf, wohl im Hinblick auf ihre 500 Kinder -: die größeren stehen neben ihr oder auf ihrem Schoß, manchmal sitzen sie auf ihren Schultern; das kleinste, jenen Lieblingssohn Pingala, hält sie an der Brust. Bisweilen sitzt auch ihr Gatte neben ihr, und so entstehen reizvolle Bilder eines von Kindern umringten glücklichen Elternpaares. Häufig beschränkt sich die Darstellung aber auch auf die Mutter mit einem einzigen Kind, das entweder auf ihrem Schoß sitzt und etwa mit ihrer Halskette spielt, oder dem sie an ihrer Brust zu trinken gibt. So ist in Asien das künstlerische Motiv der "Madonna" entstanden, und wir besitzen aus fast allen buddhistischen Ländern sehr reizvolle Schöpfungen dieser Art. Besonders die Gandharakunst hat solche in großer Zahl geschaffen; von Indien ist das Bild der Kariteimo bis nach Java gelangt (Borobudur-Reliefs), andererseits aber auch nach Zentralasien - ein schönes Gemälde aus Turfan besitzt das Berliner Museum - und weiter nach dem Osten. ? Couverture un peu marquée mais bon exemplaire non rogné et en grande partie non coupé.>>>>>C'est durant son expédition archéologique de 1914 que Segalen eut l'idée de ce livre, qu'il nourrit de ses notes de voyage mais également de ses impressions sur ses diverses expériences, « dix années d'imaginaire à couler sans tarder dans la matrice du réel ». Il fut rédigé lors de son retour en France entre le 9 septembre 1914 et le 6 février 1915, comme il le précise sur le manuscrit, à bord du Paul Lecat. L'écrivain reprend son texte en novembre 1916, avant de repartir en Chine début 1917, abandonnant son manuscrit sans jamais le reprendre.
