THE HEAVY INDUSTRY OF MANCHOUKUO: Present Conditions of the Exploitation of Natu
Tokyo 1940 J.E.F. Stiff wrs. very good ca. 12.5 x 18.5 cm "With the Compliments of Japanese Chamber of Commerce of NY" stamped on front covers 83p. large folout color map three tables appendix English text statistics charts. SCARCE Ahead of title:East Asia Economic Intelligence Series No. 3. Written eleven months before Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor this work outlines Japan's remarkable success in the last decade in Manchoukuo since 1932 and the exploitation of natural resources on a grand scale. Japan's pride in showing off its activities in Manchuria are abundantly evident in this "propaganda" book. Chapter headings: General informat- information & background volume of natural resources. Coal mining iron and steel manufacturing mining of non-ferrous metalslight metal manufacturing Manchuria & its industrial development Corp. and its sphere of activities. Chronolog- ical list of the attainments of the Manchuria Industrial Development Corp. With tables: List of Japanese companies within the Industrial Development Corp.; Movement of capital of mining & manufacturing; Mining manufacturing and other companies connected with the Manchuria Industrial Develop- ment Corp. in Manchuria & Japan. One can deduce from this rather boastful propaganda work and others like it of the 1930-1940's that Japan was exceptionally proud of its take- over of Manchuria and its industrial capacity to produce war material. One can also comprehend the timing of such a document in English distributed out of New York to put some fear in to the Americans concerning the threat of any war with Japan vis-a-vis her war-machine capacity . In fact one of Japan's stated reasons for actually attacking Pearl Harb- or was that "America cut off Japan's supply of junk iron & steel as well as petroleum products." The facts are that Japan found vast quantities of iron in Manchuria and a very abundant supply of oil in Indonesia ! So why did Japan really force war on America Beyond fascinating ! A factual and in-depth study of the highest caliber ! . unknown
