Poster sold as a fundraiser for the defense of the Gainesville Eight a group of Florida Vietnam veterans who were accused on dubious evidence of conspiracy to disrupt the 1972 Republican National Convention in Miami Beach. All eight defendants including the reputed ringleader Scott Camil were eventually acquitted. A rare poster and this is a lovely fresh example. With a front cover photograph of men working at a defense or arms plant the rear cover contains a list of upcoming actions and events from January 15 1970 Martin Luther King Day through May 16 1970 Mass Actions related to the GI movement including the April 14th Nationwide Workplace Teach-Ins the April 15th Mass Demonstrations to End the War and the Late April Actions Regional Demonstrations at Stockholders' Meetings of Major War Corporations. The text on the inside two pages begins: "Nixon has made the mistake of thinking 'the public is bored with the war' and will allow him to keep a large number of American men in Vietnam for years to come. NIXON IS WRONG. Americans ARE weary of this war but we know that until our nation withdraws its last soldier from Vietnam we cannot even begin to reconstruct the shambles of our own nation."
