Ayant participé au 3e voyage de Cook, il retourna sur la côte occidentale de l'Amérique du Nord comme commandant d'une compagnie de commerce de fourrure avec le Canada, explora les côtes de la Colombie britannique, visita le premier certaines îles près d'Hawaï et découvrit les îles et bassin de la Reine-Charlotte (nommées d'après le nom de son navire), Port Mulgrave, Norfolk Bay et un détroit auquel il donna son nom. Il publia ensuite cet ouvrage que John Meares contesta, s'attribuant faussement des découvertes. Il a paru une édition en 2 vol. in-8° la même année. Illustré de 16 planches et cartes dépliantes sur 22. This travel of Dixon who sailed with Cook on the third voyage. This work translated by Lebas describes his voyage to the northwest coast of America to set up a fur trading business. The ship of Dixon sailed south of Hootka Island when he discovered Queen Charlotte Island, Norfolk Bay as well as Dixon entrance and archipelago.
