Dorso a 5 nervi con titolo e ricchi fregi ai tasselli (cerniera del piatto anteriore lenta e strofinature ai piatti).Tagli spruzzati in rosso. Prima edizione assai rara di questo celebre viaggio immaginario nel quale l'autore parte dall'olanda per dirigersi in Groenlandia e da qui entrare nelle profondità della terra per poi riapparire dal parte opposta della terra. L'opera si inserisce nel filone dei viaggi immaginari e delle descrizioni utopistiche. La prima edizione di quest'opera uscì nel 1721 anche se con sole 3 tavole e con testo leggermente differente rispetto alle edizioni succesive. Questa del 1723 è la seconda, stampata da Amaulry anche se con lo stesso anno se ne trovano anche con altre intestazioni di stampatori. Tutte le prime tre edizioni 1721-1723-1724 sono assai rare. Una leggera e assolutamente non fastidiosa gora nel margine basso bianco da pagina 135 a 138 e per il resto, all'interno, in buone-ottime condizioni di conservaizone. An interesting and decorative item relating to the second voyage of Admiral Richard E. Byrd to the Antartic issued by General Foods "makers of Grape-Nuts" sponsors of radio broadcasting of the expedition: "on the Byrd Expedition there is being attempted the most notable feat in radio history - a two-way broadcast from and to the Expedition. These broadcasts bring the drama of the Expedition as it is being lived - from the very lips of the men themselves." The map shows the South Pole with two inset maps. At top left is the "Route of Expedition and Path of the Broadcast" and lower right "The Bay of Whales" with a further inset detail map of Little America the base of the expedition showing the location of the buildings. . ‎The Voyage of the "Scotia" - Being the Record of a Voyage of Exploration in Antarctic Seas. By Three of the Staff.‎

‎William Blackwood Edinburgh and London. 1906. First edition. Prefatory Note by William S. Bruce. Octavo. pp xxiv 375. Numerous black-and-white photographs; two folding maps one at rear. Original slate-grey pictorial cloth lettered in white. An account of the Scottish Antarctic Expedition 1902-1905. Peter Speak author of William Speirs Bruce: Polar Explorer and Scottish Nationalist 2003 describes the expedition as "by far the most cost-effective and carefully planned scientific expedition of the Heroic Age" and yet it received no formal honour or recognition from the British government and its members were denied even the prestigious Polar Medal. A major achievement of the expedition was the cataloguing of more than 1100 species of animal life 212 of them previously unknown to science. R.H. Rudmose Brown was the chief botanist. Presentation copy inscribed on the half-title page: "With the kind regards of R.N. Rudmose Brown" and with a short inscription on the headed notepaper of The University Sheffield: "To Mr Hendrickson with happy memories of a day in Green Harbour - R N Rudmose Brown". The recipient Peder Leonard Henrickson 1859-1932 was a harpooner and because of his extensive experience of hunting in Arctic waters was taken on by Fridjof Nansen for the 1893-6 Norwegian Polar Expedition on board the Fram. J. Arthur Bain in his Fridtjof Nansen: His Life and Explorations 1895 describes him thus: "He is a tall square-built man of exceptional physical powers which have often been severely tested. When off Novaya Zemlya in 1888 the schooner Enigheden of Christiansund on which he was harpooner became a total wreck. The storm continuing he was compelled to remain on deck for several days during which he was literally encased in ice. He at last managed to crawl ashore and report says 'was able to thaw and dry his clothes.' His herculean strength has enabled him to endure all hardships and he entered on his latest voyage with an iron constitution and strong resolve." Green Harbour or Gr�nfjorden in Norwegian lies on the southern side of Isfjorden on Spitsbergen's west coast. Rudmose Brown published a book Spitsbergen: An Account of Exploration Hunting the Mineral Riches & Future Potentialities of an Arctic Archipelago 1920 and presumably he met Hendricksen during the course of his researches. ‎Nouvelle édition du récit de voyage du dessinateur de l'un des plus importants voyages d'exploration du début du XIXe siècle, la circumnavigation de "l'Uranie" sous le commandement du capitaine Louis Freycinet dans les années 1817-20. La première édition de cet ouvrage a été publiée en 1822. Le premier volume comprend un long récit de la visite de l'expédition en Australie-Occidentale, avec de nombreuses illustrations. Le troisième volume est presque entièrement consacré à la visite à Hawaï, avec de nombreuses planches inédites – les portraits et représentations des coutumes indigènes sont particulièrement importants. Une grande partie du quatrième volume traite de la visite prolongée de l'Uranie en Nouvelle-Galles du Sud, encore une fois avec de nombreuses planches inédites.
