‎OLEARIUS (Adam) , MANDELSO (J.A. de) , WICQUEFORT (A. de , traducteur)‎ ‎Relation du voyage d'Adam Olearius en Moscovie, Tartarie et Perse , augmentée en cette nouvelle édition... d'une seconde partie contenant le voyage de Jean Albert de Mandelslo aux Indes Orientales, traduit de l'allemand par A. de Wicquefort‎ ‎Paris, Dezallier, 1679, 2 volumes in-4 ,28ff.-686pp., 22ff-648pp , relié plein cuir époque, dos à nerfs orné avec pièce de titre et tomaison, tranches mouchetées rouge, réparations aux dos, pièces de titre et tomaison récentes au tome, illustré de 6 cartes dépliantes (7), ex-libris manuscrit en page de garde et au titre, traces de réparation aux cartes.‎ ‎On y trouve les nombreux voyages de 1633 à 1639 d’Adam Olearius, également connu sous le nom d’Adam Ölschläger, et de Jean Albert de Mandelslo. Traduit de l’allemand par A. de Wicquefort. Savant, universitaire, mathématicien, géographe et bibliothécaire, Adam Olearius participe à une expédition vers Moscou en 1633. Il s’agit à l’origine d’une expédition commerciale du duc Frédéric III de Holstein, dirigée par Otto Bruggemann et Philippe Crusius avec Adam Olearius comme secrétaire. Le but est d’établir des échanges commerciaux avec Moscou. Leur voyage, qui les conduit en 1634 à rencontrer le tsar, n’aboutit à aucun accord et est donc un échec économique. Malgré tout, le duc Frédéric III organise dès leur retour un voyage vers la Perse avec les mêmes personnes, auxquelles d’autres vont s’ajouter, Jean Albert de Mandelslo, un autre universitaire. Cependant, l’expédition s’avère un vrai fiasco. Mandelslo quitte d’ailleurs l’expédition en Perse et part de son côté pour l’Est : il passe par la Chine et le Japon avant de rentrer en Angleterre, en faisant un détour par Madagascar. Quelques années après son retour, A. Olearius publie le récit de ses aventures. Naturaliste et voyageur, Olivier fut chargé par le gouvernement français, en 1792, d'une mission en Perse. Après un long séjour à Constantinople, il parcourut quelques îles de la Grèce, le littoral de l'Asie Mineure et la Basse-Égypte. Puis, en dix mois, il traversa la Syrie, l'Arabie et la Mésopotamie., manque l’atlas. Guillaume Antoine Olivier (1756-1814), médecin et entomologiste réputé, fut envoyé par le gouvernement français en Perse en 1792. Il séjourna longtemps à Constantinople puis se rendit en Égypte par l'Asie Mineure. Au cours de ce voyage qui dura six ans, il rassembla une collection de spécimens d'histoire naturelle considérable (aujourd'hui conservée au Muséum national d'histoire naturelle de Paris). He collected extensively in Europe and was employed as a naturalist for six years on a major expedition to Persia. He returned to France in 1798 with major natural history collections from Turkey, Asia Minor, Persia (Iran), Egypt, and some Mediterranean islands. In 1800 he was appointed a Professor of Zoology at the Veterinary; School at Alfort.
