Continuity and change: New approaches to legacy data in archaeology.= Süreklilik ve degisim: Miras veriye yeni yaklasimlar. Sempozyum bildirileri: Ankara, 29 Nisan 2016. Research on regional studies in archaeology has accelerated in the past 20 years and changed the archaeological discourse in a fundamental way. This recent perspective influenced the archaeological perception favorably in terms of evaluating the settlements with a holistic view, assessment of central places with their rural territories that cannot be separated from each other. The idea of organizing a symposium on this subject comes from our belief in the importance of removing ourselves of the understanding resulting from handling the settlement in Anatolian archeology for a long period of time, stripped from its dynamics and our belief in the importance of presenting new researches. Our department, Settlement Archaeology Program in METU was founded in 2000 mainly for filling the gap in Anatolian archaeology with the viewpoint of interdisciplinary studies and regional studies in archaeology. Studies at regional scale are recently integrated to archaeological projects in our country, yet produced important results. The main goal of this symposium is to provide a discussion ground for young scholars who carry out archaeological studies at regional scale and share various perspectives and results yielded by regional studies in Anatolia. Karia Arkhaia: La Carie, des origines a la periode pre-hekatomnide (Recontres 2013).
New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). Articles in French, English and German, and Turkish. 604 p., color and b/w ills. Karia Arkhaia: La Carie, des origines a la periode pre-hekatomnide. This volume brings together 27 papers presented at the 'Rencontres d'Archéologie de l'IFEA' devoted to the 'early' periods of a region of southwest Asia Minor: Caria. Several recent studies have significantly advanced Carian studies, but these have been limited to chronological fields from the Hekatomnids to the end of the Roman Empire. It has therefore seemed useful to propose around a symposium and its publication a state of knowledge for periods prior to the Hekatomnids by offering both archaeologists to present unpublished archaeological material, resulting from recent (often rescue) excavations, and historians to expose their latest reflections based on material already known but reassessed in the light of new discoveries. LEYLÂ HANIM, (Turkish / Ottoman poetess), (?-1848).
[OTTOMAN POETESS in LITOGRAPH by BULAQ PRINTINGHOUSE] Divân-i Leylâ Hanim.
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) In contemporary cloth bdg. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Ottoman script. 43, 59 p. Divan literature is described as "a certain tradition literature with its rules and boundaries" in the most general form. These rules and boundaries have enabled the formation of common expressions in religion and in Sufi intellection in particular and in poetry by the influence of Persian literature, and they have made it traditional in time. In this context, in classical Turkish poetry, whose male poets are predominant in quality and quantity, patriarchal rhetoric presents an outlook that its frame has been established by common tropes, metaphors, poetic themes and in short by similar imaginations and ideas. The divans of Lady Mihri (died after 1512), Lady Leyla (died in 1848) and Lady Seref (1809-1861) have different aesthetic understandings in that context. Laylâ Hanim was one of the few Turkish women poets who made a collection of her poems. Lived in Istanbul and died in 1848. Her family was close to the Ottoman Sultanate and Leylâ Hanim, witnessed the reign of Mahmud II (1808-1839) and Abdülmecid I (1839-1861). She is the daughter of Moralizâde Hâmid Efendi. Her mother Hadîce Hanim is the sister of Keçecizâde Izzet Molla, a notable bureucrat and poet of the times. She has three brothers, Atâullah Mehmed Efendi, Nurullah Mehmed Efendi and Hâlid Efendi, who died at a young age. She had financial problems after her father's death and she expressed those in her poems. Some of her poems in the divan mention that her father and brother Hâlid Efendi have lived in Bursa for a while. She is educated by Keçecizâde Izzet Molla, she is quick-witted. She experienced a short marriage, which lasted about a week; after the divorce she devoted herself to poetry. Her grave is in Galata Mevlevîhanesi. Following books include information of her life, characteristics and poetry: Fatin Tezkiresi (363), Ahmet Rif'at's Lugat-i Târîhiyye ve Cogrâfiyye (154), Tuhfe-i Nâ'ilî (895), Sicill-i Osmânî (93), Bursali Mehmet Tahir's Osmanli Müellifleri (406), Haci Begzâde Ahmet Muhtar's Sâir Hanimlarimiz (51-2), Mehmed Zihnî Efendi's Mesâhir'ün-Nisâ (195), and Semseddin Sâmî's Kâmusü'l-A'lâm (4060). These resources indicate that Leylâ Hanim is from a noble family and the links of the family to the high cadres of Ottoman bureaucracy and their intellectual property have left traces in her poetry. AH 1299 = AD 1882. Fourth Edition. (Source: All poetry). OCLC 163633996.; Özege 4177 / 2. First Bulaq Edition. Litho. Rare.

ZIYA GÖKALP, (1876-1924), (Turkish sociologist, writer, poet, and political activist).
Türk töresi.
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24,5 x 17 cm). In Ottoman script. 80 p. Roumi: 1331 = AD 1923. After the 1908 Young Turk Revolution that reinstated constitutionalism in the Ottoman Empire, he adopted the pen name Gökalp ("sky hero"), which he retained for the rest of his life. As a sociologist, Ziya Gökalp was influential in the negation of Islamism, pan-Islamism, and Ottomanism as ideological, cultural, and sociological identifiers. In a 1936 publication, sociologist Niyazi Berkes described Gökalp as "the real founder of Turkish sociology, since he was not a mere translator or interpreter of foreign sociology. Gökalp's work was particularly influential in shaping the reforms of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk; his influence figured prominently in the development of Kemalism, and its legacy in the modern Republic of Turkey. Influenced by contemporary European thought, particularly by the sociological view of Émile Durkheim, Gökalp rejected Ottomanism and Islamism in favor of Turkish nationalism. He advocated a re-Turkification of the Ottoman Empire, by promoting Turkish language and culture to all Ottoman citizenry. He found Greeks, Armenians and Jews to be a foreign body in the national Turkish state... (Source: Wikipedia). This work includes how the Turks define tradition, how the Turks understanding of tradition is shaped, in which sources information about tradition is included and to what extent Turkish tradition means. In his work, Gökalp connects with the old Turkish mythology and tries to explain the Turkish tradition in his time. First Edition. Özege 21537.
