‎Index to The Atlantic Monthly Volumes I - XXXVIII Vol. 1 - 38 1857-1876‎

‎Boston Massachusetts: H. O. Houghton and Company 1877. A solid reading/reference copy. Good EX-LIBRARY but with NO library markings on the spine or covers. Bound in the original brown cloth. Gilt stamping is still bright and shiny. Moderately worn at the corners. Spine ends a little frayed. Very Good condition internally but for front inner hinge starting. "Second Edition Revised March 1 1877" is so stated. 106 pages interleaved with 106 additional unnumbered blank pages. In two parts: Index of Articles General Articles and Editorial Departments; and Index of Authors. This volume indexes the years when The Atlantic Monthly was edited by James Russell Lowell and W. D. Howells. It is an important resource for identifying contributors since "authorship of articles was not at first publicly announced the articles were not signed and the table of contents accompanying each volume did not contain the names of authors annexed to their several contributions. This last practice was begun in the ninth volume and at the beginning of the twenty-sixth the present custom was adopted of signing each article with the author's name; but at no time has it been the custom to publish the authorship of the contributions to the editorial departments." -- from preface. . Second Edition Revised. Hardcover. Good EX-LIBRARY. 8vo. 106pp. H. O. Houghton and Company Hardcover‎

‎Night of the U-Boats [Convoy SC7]. NEAR FINE COPY IN UNCLIPPED DUSTWRAPPER‎

‎8vo., First Edition, with 38 plates on 12; blue cloth, gilt back, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. A moving account of convoy SC7 [from Halifax, Nova Scotia to the UK] in October 1940. The convoy was badly mauled by the first use of 'wolf-pack' tactics, later to become commonplace in the North Atlantic. Well-illustrated with valuable photographs of ships and men not easily available elsewhere. Dustwrapper artwork by Admiralty War Artist Jim Morris. Enser, p.429; Law, 0270.‎

‎LUND Paul‎

‎Nightmare Convoy. The Story of the Lost Wrens [Convoy OG71]. [Drawings by Tom Shuttleworth]. NEAR FINE COPY IN UNCLIPPED DUSTWRAPPER‎

‎8vo., First Edition, with 29 plates on 12 and numerous illustrations and maps in the text; cloth, gilt back, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Moving account of convoy OG71 which sailed from Liverpool for Gibraltar in August 1941. The convoy was badly hit by U-boats resulting in the loss of several escorts and merchant vessels. Most dreadful of all was the death of twenty-two Wrens (the first such loss of the war) in the Commodore's steamer Aguila. Dustwrapper artwork and text illustrations by Tom Shuttleworth who served during the convoy abroad HMS Wallflower. It is notable that Nicholas Monsarrat, present aboard the Flower-class corvette HMS Campanula, termed this action 'my particular nightmare' and later based Lt.-Cmdr George Ericson of 'The Cruel Sea' on Captain Charles Cuthbertson, captain of HMS Zinnia. Another vividly-written account by a team with a well-deserved reputation for historical accuracy and carefully collected vernacular material.‎

Set in upstate New York. For years the Delevan family image reflected only the best of everything - wealth position influence and the kind of expensive good looks that take generations to cultivate. ‎THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY The First Travis McGee title‎

‎New York and Philadelphia: Lippincott 1975. 1st hardcover edition so stated. Originally published as a paperback original in May 1964. Blue cloth shows some light fading along extremeties page edges show some minor staining else a near fine copy in unprice clipped $6.95 price intact at lower edge of front flap dust jacket. The jacket has minimal wear along the extremities a couple of small nicks at spine head but does not display any of the typical spine fading associated with most copies. The First Travis McGee Title. An unusually difficult title. Travis McGee is a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He’s also a knight-errant who’s wary of credit cards retirement benefits political parties mortgages and television. He only works when his cash runs out and his rule is simple: He’ll help you find whatever was taken from you as long as he can keep half. McGee isn’t particularly strapped for cash but how can anyone say no to Cathy a sweet backwoods girl who’s been tortured repeatedly by her manipulative ex-boyfriend Junior Allen What Travis isn’t anticipating is just how many women Junior has torn apart and left in his wake. Enter Junior’s latest victim Lois Atkinson. Frail and broken Lois can barely get out of bed when Travis finds her let alone keep herself alive. But Travis turns into Mother McGee giving Lois new life as he looks for the ruthless man who steals women’s spirits and livelihoods. But he can’t guess how violent his quest is soon to become. He’ll learn the hard way that there must be casualties in this game of cat and mouse. First Hardcover. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Book. Lippincott Hardcover‎
