Leather cracked along both joints but binding is firm and fully intact leather typically rubbed along joints edges and corners. Toning along fore-edge to front flyleaf and first several leaves some soiling to bottom text block edge. Slight indentation along upper fore-edge of both covers. Former owner's address label mounted on lower front flyleaf one leaf pp. 29-30 mended with archival tape. Not the first leather-bound copy we've encountered so we suspect that this copy is not rebound but rather one of a limited number of specially-bound copies original to issue also issued in cloth and most commonly gray wraps lettered in burgundy and black. Philadelphia: the committee 1851. Paperback. Very Good. 8 p.; 22 cm. Disbound from a volume of unrelated 19th-century pamphlets. "4" in ink at upper right-hand corner of title page. Caption title. The address was put together by a committee chaired by William M. Meredith. The address is followed by a statement by Daniel L. Miller Jr. president of the Sunbury and Erie Railroad Company about the railroad proposed to connect Sunbury to Erie. The Sunbury and Erie Railroad Company had been chartered in 1837 but did not begin construction until 1852 when the state passed enabling legislation. No date of publication; based on information in the address 1851 is the most likely date. William Morris Meredith 1799-1873 was a lawyer in Philadelphia; he served as Secretary of the Treasury under President Zachary Taylor in 1849 and 1850. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: disbound; minor foxing along gutter; otherwise clean and tight. the committee paperback

Somerville New Jersey: Cornell & Honeyman 1873. The first appearance of two Joaquin Miller poems. A beautiful copy. SEE PHOTOS. Near Fine condition. Bright shiny clean square tight and unmarked. Hinges are perfect. Previous owner's small book label on the front pastedown endpaper. Bound in the publisher's gilt-decorated green cloth. Original brown endpapers. Twelve numbers complete all published of this monthly magazine: Vol. 1 No. 1 Jan. 1873 to Vol. 1 No. 12 Dec. 1873. Included here are two Joaquin Miller poems: HAVE FAITH and A DEDICATION. The second is footnoted as follows: "The above was enclosed to us by Mr. Miller in a note from London England accompanying the Poem 'HAVE FAITH' elsewhere printed i.e. on page 202. About it he writes: 'Here are the first lines of a book of poems inscribed to the memory of my brother i.e. Dr. John D. Miller of Easton PA once your friend which you are at liberty to publish if you like.' As this new book which we believe is to be called OLIVE LEAVES has not yet been issued from the English house where it is in press we gladly print this 'DEDICATION' in advance of its appearance in England." Also in this volume is "More Local History -- New Germantown" by R. R. Honeyman pp. 116-130. This volume is a useful source of Somerset and Hunterdon County New Jersey local history and genealogy. The title page continues thus: "With Classified Local Items and Tables of Marriages and Deaths in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties from Jan. 1st 1872 sic to Nov. 1st 1873." Not in BAL or Johnson.
