No highlighting. No margin notes. 1970. First Edition. Illustrated with a few photos. This is the scarce autobiography of the singer and commercial actress Ethel Ernestine Harper 1903-1979 who graduated from college at age 17 and became a teacher. In the 1930s and 1940s Harper sang with Connie's Hot Chocolates and the Four Ginger Snaps later Three Ginger Snaps. She also appeared on Broadway including roles in THE HOT MIKADO with Bill Bojangles and in SWINGIN' THE DREAM with Louis Armstrong. She also toured as a vocalist with the Negro Follies. In the late 1950s Harper portrayed Aunt Jemima in advertising and toured for the Quaker Oats company. From 1958-1969 she was a member of the professional staff for the Girl Scouts of America. She was also a Civil Rights advocate. Harper made her home in Morris County New Jersey for over 20 years. Her papers are in the Special Collections of Morristown and Morris Township Library.
