THE PARIAH
NY: Mysterious Press 1988. 1st ed. UNCORRECTED PAGE PROOFS wraps spine lightly sunned else near fine. 1st ed. Lt. Frank Hastings SFPD. "Austin Holloway is a TV evangelist with a crystal cathedral a huge national following and major political ambitions. His family appearing weekly on The Hour includes an alcoholic wife and Elton their psychotic son. In San Francisco Holloway's plans to put a man of God in the White House begin to unravel when Elton becomes prime suspect in a series of prostitute killings. Attempting to penetrate the Holloway defense without jeopardizing the case homicide detective Frank Hastings soon understands that speed is as essential as caution. Elton killing to combat sin threatens figures of prominence as well as anonymous women of the street; the San Francisco Police aren't the only ones who want him stopped. The question in Wilcox's 25th novel is never "whodunit" but who will get to Elton first and that provides an interesting angle on this politically timely procedural with its satisfying and appropriately retributive conclusion." -- Publishers Weekly. WILLIAMS, W. Wynne
The Barkly Tableland of North Australia: with Special Reference to Further Pastoral Settlement.
12 pages, including 2 in-text sketch maps. Original condition with blue wrappers, titles to front, and containing all the ads. This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. This is a most fascinating expedition report on the Barkly Tableland of North Australia, including a geographical study of the Mitchell grass lands and prairies of Central Queensland, the Lake Nash area, the well-known holding of Avon Downs, the natural and artificial courses of water, and also the sheep pastures. Some of the sheep were brought from Vandelin Island and their health improved dramatically as a result. Williams discusses the possibility of more sheep raising on this tableland, and supports his theory with a brief summary of the usage of the roads and railways and also on the Pastoral Settlement within the Northern Country in the preceding 50 years, while making suggestions for possible improvements.
