This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. Buchan's incredible paper is on the scientific questions that arose when discussing the general movements of the atmosphere and of oceanic circulation, with particular relations to physical geography. The amazing Challenger expedition was thereby undertaken for both observational purposes and scientific research. Alexander Buchan was a Scottish meteorologist, oceanographer and botanist, credited with establishing the weather map as the basis of weather forecasting. This extraordinary report is accompanied by six fold-out colour maps.

A picture of this book is available upon request by email. Hill p 38; Sabin 9108, Borba de Moreaes p 133. The Voyage describes the loss of the Wager, a transport in Anson's squadron which was wrecked in the Golfo de Penas on the Chilean coast. Following the wreck, a mutinous split occurred, resulting in this voyage of one of the factions to Rio de Janeiro in the long boat. An account of the sufferings of the officers left behind was later published by John Byron. There were later editions published in 1752 and 1757. The introduction by Arthur D. Howden Smith provides an historical perspective. The first edition was 1743 with several printings in the eighteenth century. This is the third edition, and not reprinted since 1757.

White paper printed in dark green to stationery and envelope. Very mild wear light rubbing to menu edges. A Near Fine set of items. 4 items: dinner menus single sheet folded once stationery single sheet and envelope. Color illustrations to Dinner Menus. Varying sizes: 11" x 8" menus & 7" x 4-1/2" stationery. <br/><br/>Includes: 2 Dinner Menus dated February and October of 1969 color illustrated and plain white unused California Zephyr stationery with envelope. The California Zephyr was a passenger train service that was scheduled to pass through the more spectacular scenery on its route during the daylight. One of its claims to fame was the large Vista Dome clear glass top that allowed its passengers to view the scenery all around them. The route began in Chicago Illinois and ended in Emeryville CA. The train made its first run on March 19 1949 and while the original train stopped in 1970 it has since been operated by Amtrak. At 2438 miles it is one of Amtrak's longest routes and is to this day one of the most scenic - with breathtaking views of the Upper Colorado River Valley in the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada. N.P.: Privately printed 1965. 1965. First edition. 11" x 8 1/4" card with menu offerings to include suggestions and an A La Carte Menu. At the top of the menu listings states "As you travel over this bountiful land of ours may you be ever reminded of the grace Almighty God has bestowed upon us. Let us acknowledge our debt to Him with prayers of thanksgiving." At bottom of card is an illustration of the California Zephyr. Light tanning to edges of card as well as light wear to the extremities. Very good. Privately printed, 1965. unknown
