Un aeroplano militare olandese precipita sopra una scuola, presso Amsterdam, mentre gli alunni si trovano nel cortile. Il serbatoio di benzina si stacca in fiamme dall'apparecchio e provoca una strage fra i ragazzi, otto morti e dieci feriti." .

Dacca: Manomohan Press 1927. Original printed broadside with floral border and measuring 15 1/8 x 10 inches. Housed in the original red velvet tube with embroidered striping. Ghost of a seal on tube. Broadside in excellent condition.F. S. Jackson who had played cricket for Cambridge University Yorkshire and England was appointed Governor of Bengal in 1927. This is the welcoming broadside "issued" by the local villagers ahem and presented to Jackson. In 1932 in Calcutta he survived an assassination attempt by the revolutionary and nationalist Bina Das. She was sentenced to nine years imprisonment. Manomohan Press unknown

In fair condition with light signs of age and wear. The cover reads in full: 'Sale of Household Property. Mackenzie Lyall & Co. will sell by public auction This day Friday the 23rd Feb. 1912 Commencing at 11 a.m. At No. 7 Middleton-Street The well-made Household Furniture. The Property of Sir R. Harington Bart. The whole fully detailed within.' Inside the cover in small print are the 'General Conditions of Sale'. Two full-page advertisements with a third on the back cover. White label 'ON VIEW' stuck to front cover. 392 3 lots fully priced in manuscript for the proprietor with the firm's stamp and a signature dated from 'The Exchange Calcutta 24th. February 1912'. An interesting and evocative piece of Raj social history itemising the property of a judge who was selling up before retiring to England. The first item is 'A CURRY Stone with muller' '-/8/- lot' and Item 392 'a Salamander' '3/- lot'. The last three lots unnumbered are 'a Standard Square Pianoforte by Schiedmayer and Soehne Stuttghart in mahogany case resting on four supports' '125/- lot' 'a teakwood morocco covered revolving Music Stool' '10/-â€-' and 'a Chubb's Fire-resisting Iron Safe with key … on teakwood stand' '115/-â€-'. Calcutta: Samuel Smith and Co. at the Bengal Hurkaru Press 1836. Contemporary gold-tooled crimson goatskin with the title and year of publication lettered in gold on the spine. 8vo. With a folding table. Rare directory describing Calcutta's inhabitants during the Company rule in India 1773-1858. It lists the members of the government civil servants and the members of the king's troops as well as schools events religious societies births marriages and deaths and the departure and arrival of ships with the ships from Calcutta further highlighted on a folding table. The work is very rare as it is only available in one library and we have not been able to find it in any sales records of the past 100 years. This seemingly exhaustive directory is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the movements of people in Bengal at the time.The leather is somewhat scratched and bumped the front joint has split at the head and foot but the board is still attached the leather on the spine is slightly cracked. With a grey stain on the fore-edge some of the text on page 25-29 has been crossed out by hand pages XI-XIV in the back are nearly detached. A very large engraved chart in two sheets combined printed surface 996 × 1284 mm overall total size 1025 × 1315 mm mounted together on the original blue backing paper; minimal hand-colouring; with a printed title-label on the verso. Several short sealed tears to the left and right margins those on the left encroaching a little into the printed surface; top margin lightly creased with a few tiny chips well clear of the printed surface; left-hand sheet uniformly tanned; a few light marks; in very good condition. A large blueback chart of the Bay of Bengal with thirteen inset maps: Point de Galle Harbour; Colombo; The Bay and Harbour of Trincomalee; River Mutla; Preparis Island; Rangoon River by Captain D. Ross; Maulmain River; Amherst Road; Mouth of the Bassein River; Maulmain Harbour; River Hoogly by Captain R. Lloyd; Continuation of the River to Calcutta; and Aracan River by Captains Lloyd and Webber. Several blocks of text give details of currents in the bay and around Ceylon and alert seafarers to the imperfect charting of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. First edition; 8vo; contemporary green half-cloth decorated paper boards extremities lightly rubbed and marked text-block detached from binding leaves browned coloured pencil shelf-marks to title page minute worm-track to upper margin very occasional marginal chipping a good copy; 2 65 1 xcii pp.<br /> A rare survival of a compilation of Bengal Government records relating to the repression of banditry in the region. Notably Bengali bandits or dacoits as they were termed in the Indian subcontinent did not emerge from a particular social class caste or creed as was the case in other parts of the country. In 1830 the East India Company established the Thuggee and Dacoity Department in an effort to suppress the operations of armed marauders; the Thuggee and Dacoity Suppression Acts which followed were enacted between 1836 and 1848. The papers gathered here are comprised predominantly of correspondence between Commissioners for the Suppression of Dacoits would have been among the last issued prior to the Indian Rebellion and control of India passing to the British government.<br /><br />OCLC and COPAC together record copies at just five locations BL Oxford SSB Strasbourg and Yale.<br /> Calcutta, Thos. Extremities worn surface loss to boards joints starting worming and chipping to spine. Hinges exposed extensive worming to gutters/endpapers pencilled shelf-marks to head of detached title page imprint date rubbed away very occasional early manuscript notes to margins. The directions for settlement officers and the two parts of the Directions for collectors of land revenue were originally published separately between 1844 and 1848. They are here collected into one volume and republished with additions and corrections by J. Thornton secretary. to Government of the North West Provinces.
