Hungerford was a popular American history writer from about 1900 to 1950 contributing to many of the country's national magazines as well as writing numerous books most with some connection to transportation especially cars and trains. This book an account of the U.S. transportation system during the Second World War is a late work and not well-known. The book aims as Hungerford notes is his introduction "to tell as simply and directly as possible the story of one of the most vital factors in any great military effort." Red cloth-covered boards show minimal edgewear with lightly bumped corners. The front cover is slightly splayed with almost unnoticeable color splotching o/w boards are clean and unmarked no tears or chipping The front pastedown shows a spot of damage where a small sticker was probably removed o/w except for a couple of dogeared pages the text is clean tight and square. Given the poor quality of war-time paper the book has held up really well and makes an excellent reading/study copy. . First Edition First Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. E.P. Dutton & Co.
