A short piece recalling the various points of an 1820 treaty between the United States and the Choctaw Indians as well as subsequent treaties and claims arising from the treaty and its apparent lack of enforcement by the US government. The original treaty gave members of the Choctaw tribe who chose to become citizens of the United States a parcel of land. However it appears most of those Native Americans were not given land in exchange for their agreements and were instead driven off the land. This document sums up financial claims and what the potential course of action of the US government would be including not paying the claims. GOOD condition. Creasing and chipping at the corners. A single issue of this newspaper containing articles of general interest relating politics and current events. Of note are several articles on various shipwrecks. This includes an account of the explosion of the steamship New England detailing the event and providing names of those injured and killed. Also included is a short account of the burning and loss of the British ship Essex occurring near the island of Bermuda; and an account of a shipwreck near the port of Boulogne where the ship Amphitrite-bound for Botany Bay with 125 female convicts and a few children on board-foundered and eventually sunk due to waves. Almost all lives were lost. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy creasing along the extremities with some minor tearing and appearing somewhat tattered along the edges. Some loss along the fore edge and center of spine due to apparent chewing. General browning some foxing and minor soiling to the paper. Ownership signature along the top edge. With articles on current events of the time including a discussion of rising murder rates in England several brief accounts of various robberies and an account of the murder of a slave in South Carolina by two men Motley and Blackledge. This account provides brief detail on the torture and subsequent killing of the slave through the use of dogs as well as the trial of the men afterward. The paper is in POOR/FAIR condition with the various pages either DETACHED from each other or just about to become detached. Horizontal fold crease present with general browning to the paper and minor scattered soiling. Several small dampstains present as well as minor to moderate scattered foxing. Chipping tearing and some creasing present along the extremities. 4 inch tear present along the right edge of the horizontal fold. Lower corners of the paper folded over. Hoover and Co unknown
