LACKING any wraps and frontis illustration that were issued. 55 pp. A single issue of this magazine featuring a lengthy article on the history of witchcraft discussing superstitions and beliefs from ancient times to the then present and discussing different civilizations practices of it including the Egyptians and the Druids. This account also discusses at some length the accusations of witchcraft in the early colonies especially Massachusetts describing the persecution of Mary Parsons Moll Pitcher and others accused of practicing witchcraft. Also included is continuation of an article on the first settlement of the United States short accounts of useful inventions and improvements etc. Samuel L. Knapp edited the Boston Gazette in 1824 and established this and the National Republican in the mid 1820's. He was noted for biographical writings Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography. A single issue of this newspaper from Boston containing several article and small pieces of news on the War of 1812. This includes battles etc. as well as the court martial trial of General Hull. With a short piece on the Frigate USS Essex and its success in capturing or destroying British ships including whaling vessels. This precedes the battle in which it was captured later in 1814. A short mention of a troop request to be sent to the frontier of Georgia to engage with Creek Indians is also present alongside the various classified ads and auction announcements. GOOD condition. Several horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Moderate browning with large faint dampstaining present. Some soiling and staining. Old ink signature at the upper front page. In FAIR condition with moderate browning to the paper as well as some foxing. Medium sized dampstain at the upper right area of the paper with a smaller dampstain at the lower left corner. The original treaty gave members of the Choctaw tribe who chose to become citizens of the United States a parcel of land. However it appears most of those Native Americans were not given land in exchange for their agreements and were instead driven off the land. A single issue of this newspaper containing articles of general interest relating politics and current events. Of note are several articles on various shipwrecks. This includes an account of the explosion of the steamship New England detailing the event and providing names of those injured and killed. Also included is a short account of the burning and loss of the British ship Essex occurring near the island of Bermuda; and an account of a shipwreck near the port of Boulogne where the ship Amphitrite-bound for Botany Bay with 125 female convicts and a few children on board-foundered and eventually sunk due to waves. Almost all lives were lost. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy creasing along the extremities with some minor tearing and appearing somewhat tattered along the edges.
