Albin Michel, février 1998, EDITION ORIGINALE, in-8, cartonnage, couv. photo coul. éd., 382 pp., cartes en noir, sommaire, lexique, bibliographie, adresses, tables des produits et des recettes traditionnelles, En 1989, était lancé, à l'initiative de Jack Lang, alors Ministre de la Culture, un programme de recherche visant à recenser le patrimoine culinaire de notre pays. La gastronomie et l’ensemble des patrimoines qui l’accompagnent avaient alors droit de cité au Ministère de la Culture. Pour coordonner cet Inventaire du patrimoine culinaire de la France, une structure fut créée : le Conseil National des Arts Culinaires (CNAC). Un comité de pilotage d' « experts nationaux » fut mis en place qui comptait deux ethnologues, Laurence Bérard et Philippe Marchenay (CNRS, direction des enquêtes terrain), un agronome, Jean Froc (agronome à l'INRA, décédé en février 2009) et deux historiens, Mary et Philip Hyman (direction des recherches historiques). Cet ambitieux projet a donné lieu à la publication de vingt-deux volumes entre 1990 et 2003 aux éditions Albin-Michel. Vingt-deux volumes qui forment désormais une collection prestigieuse, bien connue des gastronomes français. Le CNAC dut malheureusement cesser ses activités à la fin des années 1990 alors que trois régions restaient à couvrir : l’Auvergne, le Centre, la Réunion (et Mayotte). L’Institut Européen d’Histoire et des Cultures de l’Alimentation, basé à Tours, ne pouvait se satisfaire de voir ce programme exceptionnel demeurer incomplet. Le conseil régional du Centre a lui aussi mesuré l’importance de ce projet et l’a soutenu sans réserve. En 2009 a donc commencé un important travail d’enquête, il s’achève aujourd’hui avec la publication de cet Inventaire du patrimoine de la région Centre. Très bon état

8vo period calf rebacked with modern calf and new endpapers 3 202pp. Wear to covers; ink name to top of title page and some foxing and darkening within. Otherwise very good. The contents provide coverage of the important proceedings before the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776.This commentary reflects the efforts of the Second Continental Congress which was headed by John Hancock. A good portion of the contents focus on correspondence between Washington who had taken command of the Continental Army in May 1775 and Congress election of delegates form each of the Colonies and funding the war with Great Britain. Some remarks actually give insight into the pay that soldiers received privates got $5 per month. Also some information on printing of paper money and what denominations would be used. While the title page indicated this was a reprinted work Sabin only lists the London edition. Reprinted For J. Almon

First Printing complete in three volumes of the "first anti-miscegenation novel in our literature Fiedler. 12mo: xiv2991; 23111; 2316pp. True First Edition of this historical novel published in London September and later in November in Philadelphia under the title The Wept of Wish-Ton-Wish: A Tale both from the same sheets printed in Florence by Molini. Contemporary pink half calf over marbled boards by Harrison of Belfast their ticket to front paste down of vol. I; black morocco lettering pieces gilt; spines decorated in blind; marbled endpapers and edges. A truly excellent set occasional light foxing mostly marginal; spines rubbed and faded to tan. Rare: according to WorldCat held only in British Library. Spiller & Blackburn 11. BAL 3843. Sabin 16416. Fiedler quoted in Wallace James D. "Race and Captivity in Cooper's the Wept of Wish-ton-wish" American Literary History 7.2 1995: 189-209. ¶ Written in Paris when Cooper was as the center of the small American expatriate community and set in the seventeenth century on frontier land later part of Connecticut. Full leather boards with gilt lettering and bands on spine. Cover much worn scuffed and spotted with heavily bumped corners and spine ends leather cracking a bit at spine heavy staining to end papers and first few pages lighter stains and spots on continuing pages which are lightly tanned binding shaken with some sections pulled but still attached front hinge weak back free end paper missing. As a 200 year old original edition this book has a few problems but is still readible and not particularly fragile. <br/><br/>Average size measures 5 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches. Birch and Small hardcover

New York: J.C. Riker 1851. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. With a few illustrations including a portrait of the author. Copway chief of the Ojibway American Indian tribe wrote this book in response to his travels in Europe. While claiming it to be primarily a portrait of important men of the times in Europe his observations go beyond that giving a unique perspective to European culture as seen through the eyes of someone not accustomed to it. He also recounts the publicity that preceded his visits by citing newspaper articles and captions serving to capture European attitudes toward Native Americans at that time. Rather than a traditional travelogue this book also gives voice to an often unheard from culture in America. In GOOD condition. Moderate soiling and darkening to the boards. Some scuffing. Moderate edgewear with some bumping and scuffing to the spine. The spine itself has rather heavy wear with darkening to the backstrip heavy pulling to the head and foot of the spine-the foot being tattered and split along the front gutter for an inch and the back about � inch. Inner text clean and solid with previous owner's name in pencil on the first front endpaper. Some darkening around the page edges and a four digit number written in pencil in the upper margin on page 338. Still a nice copy of this scarce piece of Americana in GOOD condition. Sabin 16721.
