First editioin with "100e mille" printed on the front cover and "Le 24 Novembre 1951" printed in the publishing details at the end. 3000 numbered copies of the first edition were printed on special paper. This is not one of those. Other than the "100e mille" printed on the cover and the different paper this book is identical to the 3000 numbered copies. I have not found any 1951 copies with a smaller number than 100e mille printed on the front cover but I have encountered a few 1951 copies with "SP" printed on the front cover and no number "mille" printed there. My guess is that the first printing of the trade edition was a run of 100000 copies. Subsequent printings all have later dates printed at the end. This copy is inscribed signed and dated January 1952 by Gaston Rebuffat on the short title page. Rebuffat's signature on this book is quite uncommon. Contains a double-sided foldout map 11" by 15": On one side is a sketch map of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains the area explored by the French team. The other side of the map is a narrower photo of "The Great Barrier seen from Camp II." The map borders have a 2" tear and a 1" tear but neither affect the maps themselves. This clean solid straight hardcover book has clean though tanning text pages and firm hinges. It contains many good b/w photos of the expedition and a frontispiece in full color of a climber.
