Heinrich Schliemann (1822-1890) was born in Neubukow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin (Germany) but was a world-traveler as a treasure hunter and pioneer archaeologist. An advocate of the historical reality of places mentioned in the works of Homer, he became the first important excavator of Troy and of the Mycenaean sites Mycenae and Tiryns. Schliemann brought dedication, enthusiasm, conviction a large fortune, and a great deal of luck to the work. His personal history is quite fascinating. Next she married a baron in Ludwig's court, only to leave him for the Count Spiridion Theotocky Greek count and, later, an Albanian brigand, Christodoulos Hadjipetros.
