The book with a focus on the humanitarian side of the Battle of Gallipoli. Published by Kültür AS to mark the centenary of World War I, the book was inspired by the true story of a young ANZAC lieutenant and was written after secret Vatican documents were released thanks to the efforts of Rinaldo Marmara, the press secretary of Turkey's Catholic Bishops Conference and Cultural Attaché, who worked to uncover for them for three years. The book opens with historical documents that feature the correspondences between the Vatican, which was closely following the war, and its Istanbul representative, Monsieur Dolci. It then picks up momentum by featuring the family's letters to Pope Benedict XV that pleaded with him to find where lost soldiers were buried. Amid the chaos of war, Ottoman War Minister Enver Pasha paid particular attention to graves and ordered the generals to respect them, and even directly told soldiers to take care of them. Upon the request of English, French and Austrian families, the graves of dead soldiers were searched for.

In "First Day Plus One." the reader will discover how this crucial campaign developed on the Turkish side when the Anzac s came ashore at what is now known as Anzac cove. The Çanakkale naval war has a special place in the history of naval warfare. Although offensive victories are the rule, the Çanakkale naval war is an exception because it was a defensive victory. This exhibition of Allied postcards depicting the invasion of the Dardanelles on March 18, 1915, and the subsequent land warfare campaign in Gallipoli consists of items painstakingly selected by collector and doctor of chemistry Dr. Seyhun Binzet among hundreds of postcards he acquired from a number of countries over decades to evoke an imagery of some of the darkest days in Turkish history. The exhibition is laid out in 12 sections presenting a panaroma of the Allied view of the many aspects of the Dardanelles Campaign: The Italian invasion of the straits of Çanakkale., Preparations for the Dardanelles Campaign., The naval victory of March 18 and the subsequent Gallipoli Campaign.

The Dardanelles
A souvenir handkerchief featuring a map centred on Turkey and the Black Sea
The linen handkerchief is printed in full colour; the external dimensions are 310 � 305 mm with the map itself 255 � 240 mm. It is surrounded by a decorative border with nautical motifs. Apart from the abbreviation 'Regd.' in the bottom left-hand corner below the border there is no indication of its origins. However the presence of sea-routes in the Mediterranean and Black Seas and the nautical border suggest it may have been issued by a shipping company. The top portion of the map shows southern Europe from Cracow in Austria-Hungary to Tzaritzin Stalingrad from 1925-1961 now Volgograd in Russia with the Balkan Peninsula on the left the northern tip of Africa below it and a large inset map 92 � 88 mm of the Dardanelles in the bottom right-hand corner. We suggest a date circa 1914; the map of Bulgaria shows clearly that the Second Balkan War has ended and the First World War has not yet reached the Gallipoli Peninsula. unknown
