Ma in realtà non è che una veste più professionale di un'abitudine molto naturale in tutti i lettori: parlare di un libro che si è letto a qualcuno che ancora non l'ha letto. Con entusiasmo, con precisione, con fastidio per la noia che si è provata. Una sola cosa non pertiene ai lettori non professionali, e cioè la valutazione editoriale, il suggerimento di pubblicare o non pubblicare quel libro. Valutazione che può contemplare una serie di parametri assai varia, da quelli ideologici a quelli commerciali, cercando di non dimenticare mai l'identità della casa editrice. In questo volume Tommaso Munari ha raccolto 194 schede scritte da cento fra i più famosi lettori che l'Einaudi ha avuto nel corso degli anni.
