Complete with all of the maps as called for by the table of contents. A tough-to-find book especially complete with all the BEAUTIFUL MULTI-COLOR FOLDING MAPS IN PERFECT CONDITION. Any of them would look magnificent framed. This amazing miscellany contains the Fifth Report to the Director 1908 and Museum Bulletins 126-128 and 133 and Report of the State Paleontologist for 1908. A particularly useful contribution is: One Hundred Years of New York State Geologic Maps 1809-1909 by Henry Leighton. It includes a CARTO-BIBLIOGRAPHY that describes 329 New York Geologic Maps and has its own index. Some other contributions: A Peculiar Landslip in the Hudson River Clays by D. H. ‎Grandissima carta topografica di cm. 131,7 x 83,5 perfettamente TELATA e in ottime condizioni, divisa in 32 rettangoli di cm. 20,8x16,3 editorialmente applicata alla tela grigia, e ripiegata a formare un oggetto di cm. 21x 16,5 x 2 di spessore. Impressa in bianco e nero, con bella evidenza dei rilievi, corsi d'acqua e laghi in azzurro, con indicazioni dei gradi ai bordi reticolo in nero e più piccolo in rosso. Parrebbe in scala 1:50.000 (cioè un cm. sulla carta equivale a 500 metri nella realtà).‎

‎Seconde édition française de cette relation de voyage en Égypte et en Nubie due à Frédéric-Louis Norden (1708-1742), marin et voyageur danois. Cette seconde édition française faisant suite à la première en deux volumes in-folio (1755, Copenhague), est due à l'orientaliste Louis Langlès (1763-1824). Il sagit de louvrage le plus complet consacré aux antiquités égyptiennes jusqu'à la publication de l'Expédition d'Égypte en 1809. Frédéric Louis Norden, fils dun lieutenant-colonel dinfanterie, se distingua très vite pour ses talents de cartographe. En 1732, il est nommé sous-lieutenant par le roi Christian VI et réalise à ce titre de nombreuses missions à létranger : Pays-Bas, France, Italie, Malte pour y étudier les fortifications. Lors de ces voyages, il est élu membre de lAcadémie de dessin de Florence, et fait la connaissance de Philipp von Stosch, qui lui transmet sa passion pour lEgypte ancienne. A la demande du roi, Norden rejoint lexpédition française de Pierre Joseph le Roux dEsneval, qui se rend en Egypte pour explorer le Nil dAlexandrie à Assouan. Durant ce voyage, Norden tint un journal et réalisa plus de 200 dessins : monuments et scènes de la vie quotidienne. Ce sont daprès ces carnets que ces amis pourront faire publier le présent ouvrage. « Après avoir visité Alexandrie et Le Caire, il commença à remonter le Nil, et continua jusquà Derr [à 100 km au nord-est dAbou Simbel] en Nubie, croisant ainsi la route (de nuit et sans le savoir) de Richard Pococke qui voyageait dans la direction opposée. De là, Norden revint sur ses pas jusquà Alexandrie et reprit la mer pour lEurope en mai 1738. Lors de cette année égyptienne, Norden produisit les premières cartes cohérentes du pays. Il mourut à Paris en septembre 1742, mais ses amis reprirent le travail quil avait laissé sur lEgypte et les publièrent en français, en deux volumes à Copenhague entre 1752 et 1755. » (Howgego). (Norden fut emporté par la tuberculose). Norden « fut le premier Européen à sintroduire aussi loin que la ville de Derr en Nubie et à publier une relation sur les temples nubiens. Cet important ouvrage est la première tentative pour donner une description élaborée de lEgypte, et son illustration est la plus significative avant celle de Denon. » (Blackmer). Dun point de vue cartographique, louvrage comprend la « première carte du Nil, entre Le Caire et Derr reposant sur des relevés topographiques et indiquant toutes les places situées sur les rives. » (cf. Hence). Cette seconde édition augmentée est illustrée d'un portrait, d'un frontispice, de 166 planches et cartes, dont certaines dépliantes et 9 planches d'éléments décoratifs. Les planches représentent des vues, des paysages, des ruines, des antiquités, plans et cartes, et sont toutes légendées en français. Second French edition of this account of a journey to Egypt and Nubia by Frédéric-Louis Norden (1708-1742), a Danish sailor and traveler. This second French edition, following the first in two folio volumes (1755, Copenhagen), is by the orientalist Louis Langlès (1763-1824). It was the most comprehensive work on Egyptian antiquities until the publication of L'Expédition d'Égypte in 1809. Frédéric Louis Norden, the son of an infantry lieutenant colonel, quickly distinguished himself for his talents as a cartographer. In 1732, he was appointed second lieutenant by King Christian VI and, in this capacity, carried out numerous missions abroad: to the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Malta to study fortifications. During these trips, he was elected a member of the Academy of Drawing in Florence and met Philipp von Stosch, who passed on his passion for ancient Egypt to him. At the king's request, Norden joined Pierre Joseph le Roux d'Esneval's French expedition to Egypt to explore the Nile from Alexandria to Aswan. During this trip, Norden kept a journal and made more than 200 drawings of monuments and scenes from everyday life. It was from these notebooks that his friends were able to publish this book. "After visiting Alexandria and Cairo, he began to travel up the Nile, continuing as far as Derr [100 km northeast of Abu Simbel] in Nubia, thus crossing paths (at night and without knowing it) with Richard Pococke, who was traveling in the opposite direction. From there, Norden retraced his steps to Alexandria and set sail for Europe in May 1738. During his year in Egypt, Norden produced the first coherent maps of the country. He died in Paris in September 1742, but his friends took up the work he had left on Egypt and published it in French, in two volumes in Copenhagen between 1752 and 1755. (Howgego). (Norden died of tuberculosis). Norden was the first European to venture as far as the city of Derr in Nubia and to publish an account of the Nubian temples. This important work is the first attempt to provide a detailed description of Egypt, and its illustrations are the most significant prior to those of Denon. (Blackmer). From a cartographic point of view, the work includes the first map of the Nile between Cairo and Derr based on topographical surveys and indicating all the places located on the banks. (cf. Hence). This second expanded edition is illustrated with a portrait, a frontispiece, 166 plates and maps, some of which are fold-out, and 9 plates of decorative elements. The plates depict views, landscapes, ruins, antiquities, plans, and maps, and are all captioned in French.‎
