Pitman was a product of the camp meeting movement that swept through southern and eastern Jersey beginning in the 1820s and got it's name from Charles Pitman a prominent preacher of the time. Pitman Camp opened in 1870 and the borough was incorporated in 1905. This edition includes an updated final chapter on Pitman history from 1955 the publication year of the first edition to 1975. A fine tight bright example small adhesion to the pastedown on lower corner front free map endpaper.
