Lyon's official report provides information on the Inuit peoples of Southampton Island the island is just north of Hudson Bay including their engineering techniques for boatbuilding burial customs and the report contains an anatomical plate. Lyon's attempt to reach the Northwest passage was ultimately a failure. The corners gently rubbed through the joints and the gutters are neatly strengthened a small corner dampspot on a few plates. First Edition of Lyon's narrative of his voyage in the Griper in 1824 in quest of the north-west passage by way of Hudson's Bay. Lyon managed to penetrate into Roes Welcome midway between Wager Inlet and Repulse Bay before he was driven back by bad weather. He here enumerates the difficulties encountered and provides interesting observations on the Esquimaux of the Southampton Islands immediately north of Hudson's Bay. The appendix to the narrative includes botanical researches by W.J.Hooker describing fifty-three species mostly from the Southampton Islands and notes by E.N.Kendall on the magnetic errors of the crew's compasses.
