Natural buckram titled in black on the spine. The covers are soiled and rubbed with wear to the corners and edges. The head and tail of the spine are chipped with pieces out. 120 & 1 pages. The front endpaper and pastedown are stained and there is a small piece out from the front edge of the front endpaper. There is foxing to the rear endpaper and pastedown and a tear along the inner edge of the rear endpaper. The pages are toned with some occasional stains. Good. <p>"The Second Trade Edition" limited to 2000 numbered copies.<p>Inscribed by the author Joseph Moncure March to the American film cinematographer Leon Shamroy: "Leon: as wild as you fly in this Wild Party so be sure to keep your nose straight. J.M. March". A wonderful association copy in that Shamroy and March subsequently worked together on the 1933 movie Jennie Gerhardt.<p>Joseph Moncure March's first published work "The Wild Party" is an epic narrative poem in the classical style. Published at the height of Prohibition the poem was widely banned for its content which included illegal bathtub gin and colorful eccentric characters. William Burroughs was said to have commented that "The Wild Party" was "the book that made me want to be a writer".<p>The cinematographer Leon Shamroy 1901-1974 holds the record in company with Charles Lang for the most Academy Award nominations for Cinematography. In 1928 Shamroy shot his first experimental film the highly praised movie "The Last Moment" in collaboration with Paul Fejos. A subsequent film "Blindfold" attracted Hollywood's attention and garnered him a contract with Paramount. He later signed with 20th Century Fox. Enjoying complete freedom he stayed with the firm for 30 years. Among other films he was the Cinematrographer for "Cleopatra" "Leave Her to Heaven" "Wilson" "The Black Swan" "The Agony and The Ecstasy "Porgy and Bess" "South Pacific" "The King and I" "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing" "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" "You Only Live Once" etc. etc. etc. New York: Covici Friede, 1929. hardcover
