Il diffère de Cantillon quant à sa philosophie générale et dans son analyse des problèmes sociaux. Aussi pensait-il que la ruine de la France pouvait être évitée par la restauration du régime féodal. A la différence de Cantillon, Dubuat-Nançay était populationiste. Sur l'agriculture, il se rapproche des agrariens quand il retient l'ordre naturel providentiel et la productivité nette des physiocrates. Dans cet ouvrage il affirme que la prospérité et le bonheur des Etats dépend d'un équilibre juste entre tradition et changement et prône la connaissance approfondie de l'histoire de l'organisation sociale et politique, pour savoir ce qu'il faut changer et ce qu'il faut conserver.‎
