Paris: Kra 1929. Fine. Kra Paris 1929 13 x 19 cm broché First edition on ordinary paper issued after the destruction of the 1923 printing following a dispute between Tzara and the publisher. Double autograph inscription signed and dated by Tristan Tzara first to Paul Éluard « à Paul Éluard. Tristan Tzara. Juillet 1929 » then after striking through this initial dedication to René Char in September 1934: « à René Char avec toute l'amitié grande de Tristan Tzara ». This second inscription is further embellished with a small drawing by Tzara a hand pointing with its index finger to Chars name. In the autumn of 1934 when Tzara inscribed the book to Char both poets were beginning to distance themselves from Surrealism. Together with René Crevel and Roger Caillois they formed a small group openly critical of André Breton in particular his stance on the Communist Party. Like Char Tzara would leave the movement a few months later deeming Surrealism incompatible with revolution. A fine copy of exceptional provenance a superb testament to the decisive rapprochement of Tzara and Char in the history of Surrealism. Kra unknown

Washington D.C May 8 1945. Large three-colored broadside of Harry Truman's Proclamation declaring the surrender of Germany boldly signed by Harry S. Truman. Also included at the lower left is the original 1945 Christmas card from the President and Mrs. Truman and at lower right the original red white and blue ribbon. These were presented by the President as gifts for friends. Uncommon especially with the original Christmas card and ribbon. Matted and framed which measures 21 inches by 28 inches. "On the day before Hitlers suicide all German troops in Italy laid down their arms. On May 4th German forces in Holland Denmark and northwest Germany surrendered to British Field Marshall Montgomery. On the 6th Donitz authorized General Alfred Jodl to conclude an armistice agreement with General Eisenhower. The Germans wanted a separate peace with the allied troops in the West in order to continue their battle with the Russians in the East. Eisenhower would have none of it. He ordered the Germans to surrender unconditionally the next day. The Germans acquiesced signing the surrender document on May 7th The cessation of fighting took effect at 11:01 P.M. on May 8th" Georges Blond. unknown books

Rare advance press transcript of Truman's penultimate State of the Union Address delivered at the height of the Korean War and discussing steps that the free world was taking to halt Soviet and Chinese Communist aggression. Folio five pages typescript. Presentation copy inscribed by Truman at the conclusion of the speech "Harry Truman Best of luck to the twins! Feb 3. 1954." The hot war in Korea and cold war in Europe came to dominate the end of Truman's second term and also dominate this speech. Doubts about his ability to handle these crises were lowering the President's popularity daily and several months after delivering it he announced he would not run in 1952. In fine condition. Housed in a custom cloth chemise and half morocco slipcase. Rare as this confidential distribution would have been produced in a very small number most being discarded after use. Harry S. Truman was the 33rd president of the United States from 1945 to 1953 succeeding upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt after serving as vice president. Truman gained national prominence as chairman of the Truman Committee in 1934 aimed at reducing waste and inefficiency in wartime contracts. Soon after succeeding to the presidency he authorized the first and only use of nuclear weapons in war. Truman's administration engaged in an internationalist foreign policy and renounced isolationism. He rallied his New Deal coalition during the 1948 presidential election and won a surprise victory that secured his own presidential term. When he left office Truman's presidency was criticized but scholars rehabilitated his image in the 1960s and he is ranked as one of the best presidents. hardcover books

Instead Truman met with Stevenson in Washington and proposed that Stevenson seek the Democratic nomination for president; Truman promised him his support if he did so. Although Stevenson was initially hesitant he eventually accepted the Democratic nomination and was ultimately defeated by his Republican opponent Dwight D. Eisenhower. unknown books

The recipient Walter Keil Granger was a United States Representative from Utah. Granger served as member of the Utah House of Representatives from 1932 to 1937 and serving as speaker in 1935. He then served as member of the Public Service Commission of Utah from 1937 to 1940. In 1941 Granger was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh and to the five succeeding Congresses January 3 1941 to January 3 1953. In near fine condition. A nice association.
