Their building was designed by Albert Pissis who was the first San Francisco architect to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and is credited with introducing the Beaux Arts style to San Francisco. The bank was acquired by Security Pacific Bank in 1988. Security Pacific Bank was acquired by Bank of America in 1992. Two long autograph letters signed 16-sides 8vo to C. E. Carrington of the Cambridge University Press who had published her 'A Cardinal of the Medici' in 1937 seeking a publisher for a play -
"I ought not to waste y'r time with this for I don't believe you can tell me of any publisher who wd. have sufficient courage for it. Mr. Roberts says it is a 'period piece' - but I of course feel it is for all time! It is St. John XII 27 - I curiously wrote it before the war in February 1914. In 1916 I had it typed & sent to Mr. du Maurier. My husband had just taken his nephew's�place in parliament & we were in London. Mr du Maurier rang up�& said he could not put in on at Wyndhams for the stage was too narrow but that he was going to persuade someone or another to do so��.Mr Harrison at the Haymarket was a sweety - & then at the last moment courage failed - his letter to me said 'the public would never stand it'. A queer little Mr Hay who leased several theatres peered at me over the top of his desk & said ' and all the time I feel this is a gold mine if only I had the guts'���." etc. Feb. 25th & March 2nd 1938. Together with two other autograph pieces. Also a retained carbon copy of a letter from C. E. Carrington to G. I. Whitham "It was a most unusual event for the Cambridge University Press to publish an historical novel and it only took place because of the extraordinary display of original research which was shown in Mrs. Hicks Beach: Cardinal of the Medici�.". 30th June 1937. unknown

Famed Mexican caricaturist and sculptor who worked and exhibited in New York in the 1920s and '30s; in a February 1936 "Time" magazine review of an exhibit of his figures in Manhattan the review noted his "brilliantly colored little figures" wax pieces less than 6" tall; he described Hidalgo as a "round-faced swart young man. hates parties is intensely serious neither drinks nor smokes works ten hours a day owns only one suit of clothes and has traveled by ox cart automobile and burro. studying the Indians of his native land." TLS "Hidalgo" 1p 8�" X 10 3/4" Mexico City Mexico 1948 November 16. Addressed to Mrs. Granger Brown. Very good. Mailing folds not weakened. Good content in English regarding a figurine he was commissioned to make for this Lake Forest Illinois socialite reading in part: "My suggestion is to make a baby deer. it is very difficult to send these figures by mail across the border I would suggest that we wait until possibly someone from Illinois comes to Mexico and can take them back personally. which will eliminate the many problems and red tape involved with the Customs." Handsome bold signature in brown ink. At lower left he makes a delightful small sketch using blue red and green pencil of a Mexican peasant in large sombrero back to the viewer seated in the grass -- quite charming. Unusual. hardcover
