Medieval novel set during the reigns of Louis XI and Charles VI inspired by tales and fabliaux of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The author explains his choice of vocabulary and archaic style in a long preface on the novel and observations on medieval tales and fabliaux and the troubadours of Provence followed by a discourse on the novel. Charles Joseph Mayer 1751-1825 French writer and editor of Cabinet des fées whose critical role was important for the rediscovery of ancient literatures. Marie-Jeanne Riccoboni 1713-1792 was after having been a mediocre actress by necessity a novelist highly appreciated in her time to such an extent that her peers refused to acknowledge that the author was a woman. Her first novel had immediate success and the following ones were even better received praised for the fineness of style and the interest of details placing Madame Riccoboni among the best novelists of the 18th century. Collection of three ordinances concerning election officers who were responsible for collecting taxes under Henri III. France was indeed divided into elections ancestors of our departments and the three ordinances which reintroduce then abolish and reintroduce again the elected officials and presidents seem to show that tax collection and administration were not yet straightforward in the troubled period of the late Renaissance.
