The poster has been folded four times with the reverse on the outside. All four corners have several tiny pin holes and ther are two corners with bumping. The poster is for the most part clean and bright without chips edge nicks or fading. The Reverse of the posterhas red ink stamped notations: "2001 Space Odyssey followed by 1 SH D /103G on the bottom corner of the reverse of the poster. "US style D poster was created for 'wild' pastings on New York City walls subways and temporary structures. MGM commissioned this poster for the film's 70 mm re-launch in New York City in 1969. This poster features the star child floating in an iris. The release of the 70 mm film helped to make it a commercial and critical success. As this poster was designed for 'wild' pasting only unused posters could have survived. Two volumes 13 engraved plates of which 11 are of plants pp xx 396; 367 35 lacking the half-titles a general age-toning throughout a few very minor marginal tears there is some marginal staining in the second volume which I would not call offensive otherwise this is a very good wide-margined copy uncut and unpressed; bound in a recent full panelled calf blind-stamped raised bands on the spines with a red labels very good. Osbeck 1723 - 1805 was a Swedish explorer naturalist and an apostle of Carl Linnaeus. He was born in the parish of Hålanda on Västergötland and studied at Uppsala with Carolus Linnaeus. In 1750 - 1752 he travelled as chaplain on the ship Prins Carl to Asia where he spent four months studying the flora fauna and people of the Canton region of China. He returned home just in time to contribute more than 600 species of plant to Linnaeus' Species Plantarum published in 1753. Ekeberg 1716 - 1784 was a Swedish physician chemist and explorer. He made several voyages to the East Indies and China as a sea captain. He brought back reports of the tea tree and wrote a number of books. Trained as a pharmacist and chemist Ekeberg started his career as a ship's doctor and became an expert navigator. Between 1742 and 1778 he made ten trips to India and China becoming a captain in 1750 for the Swedish East India Company. He brought back numerous natural history specimens from his voyages for Carl Linnaeus with whom he had a close friendship and was honoured by having the genus Ekebergia created. ‎London: Ward Lock Bowden & Co Volumes 1 - 7 popular re-issue. Not dated but probably c. 1892 -5 though the British Library lists seven volumes of this edition and dates it 1881-88. A heavy set - extra postage will be necessary. One of the most elusive of all late Victorian journals for the keen handyman. This set is bound in a simple brown cloth which is a little marked worn and frayed but generally still very sound though the spine head of volume two is rather torn and a hinge cracked in volume five. The contents are generally clean though the folding plans and plates are often printed on an inferior paper which has browned as have the adjoining pages. There are approximately 24 of these folding plates and they have all suffered some tearing though generally not with any loss of text. Two of them are detached and at least one is now in two halves. Several have been repaired at a much earlier time. I have noticed the odd page loose here and there but generally the contents are very sound. This work was quite possibly bound up from separately issued parts and I note that a couple of pages are missing at the start of Volume 1 and these appear never to have been bound in. Apart from this I believe it to be complete. An amazingly encyclopaedic survey of the Victorian industrial/arts& crafts world. ‎Adak AK: Hammer Head Lodge. Very Good. 0. Hardcover. This is a cardcover folder / menu with a decorated and stamped front cover. The interior contains two typed pages of menu items with prices under plastic holders. This menu is from circa 1955 at the Hammerhead Lodge which was the Naval Officer's mess on Adak Island Alaska. "On 1 July 1950 the Air Force transferred Davis AFB to the United States Navy who established an anti-submarine warfare base there. Adak was most recently run by the U. S. Navy as a deployment base for P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft primarily to conduct antisubmarine warfare operations against submarines and surveillance of naval surface vessels of the former Soviet Union. The Naval Air Facility was also reported to be used as a refueling stop for U-2 Dragon Lady ultra-high altitude reconnaissance aircraft. By the 1980s there were over 6000 Navy personnel on the islands. With the fall of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s NAS Adak's operational viability as a front-line military installation began to wane and in the mid-1990s a decision was made by the federal government to cease military flight operations there under the military's Base Realignment and Closure Program BRAC. On 31 March 1997 the Navy closed Adak Naval Air Facility. The lowering of the flag for the last time ended an era that began of 31 August 1942 when U. S. Forces landed on the Aleutian Island and established an advance base there for operations against the Japanese on Kiska and Attu Islands.
