London: Blackie and Son Limited Beautifully illustrated book showing the adventures of hunting hounds 34 pages with every other page one or more colour illustrations with the story in verse. The pages instead of being printed each side are printed side by side and then folded so that the illustrations are bck to back then bound into the book the first of these has split to a length of 3 inches at the fold but been repaired internally with pasted on paper a neat repair the second page has a smaller split around ½ inch this has not been reaired. First and last couple of pages are medium to heavily foxed with just occasional spots on the other pages. Book has been professionally respined keeping the original illustrated endpapers these are browned and a triangular loss to front bottom right of endpaper 5½ iches across by 2 inches at its deepest point. Book is not dated but has previous owners details in ink on the inside front board dated 1908. outer boards are rubbed and worn on edges with boards showing through some marking. Yokoyama Kōhōsha. 横山公報社. Meiji 39 1906. Colourful folding sugoroku or Japanese game 78 cm x 55 cm. Some minor wear and small holes at folds very occasional light browning. Good copy. This Sugoroku was created to commemorate the first anniversary of the magazine Togyo Shuho 糖業週報 Sugar Industry Weekly. The squares of the the sugoroku game are made up of advertisements and logos of sugar refining and trading companies in Japan mostly Tokyo. Japan had acquired the colony of Taiwan in 1895 and the Taiwanese sugar industry heavily supported by the Japanese colonial authorities was rapidly expanding at this time. The establishment of the journal Togyo Shuho reflected this expansion. The game concludes with an image of cartoon figure businessmen waving bundles of cash in their hands. . Printed colour pictorial map 33 x 48 cms; 41.8 x 54.5 cms sheet central fold sheet toned corners chipped with some loss to the bottom border and at the central fold in good condition; and on the verso "Movie-Go-Round" by Louella O. Parsons black and white photos and advertisements. Pictorial map printed for the weekend supplement of the Randolph Hearst owned newspaper the Los Angeles Examiner. The map-maker and artist Howard Burke had also worked for the San Francisco Examiner and was known for pictorial maps many with a persuasive or rhetorical edge and as here were designed to shore up American patriotism and defences against a wider world in the increasingly turbulent pre-war 1930s. The caption to this map outlines a multi-billion dollar 25 year proposal by Congressman J. Buell Snyder for a network of coast to coast transcontinental highways "in case of an attack by a foreign power at any point along the border". Buell Snyder earned the soubriquet "the father of superhighways" and during the War he was assigned to a Congressional Committee in charge of appropriations for the War Department. Scarce. . Singapore. 1951. 26 black and white photographs mounted on stiff folding foolscap leaves bifolium the leaves a little bowed two loose captioned in T. W. Burdon's hand approx 8.5 x 14cms or portrait with two boxes of slides related to fishing vessels in Australia with a typewritten index by Burdon the photographs unfaded and crisp in very good condition. A small collection of original photographs from the collection of Thomas Wilkinson Burdon 1918-1988 who served as Deputy Director of Fisheries in Singapore & Malaysia from 1949-1953 and visited Ceylon during his tenure. The photographs are captioned in Burdon’s hand and include images of fishing vessels and nets and one of a Fishermen's housing estate in Ceylon. A surprising double page montage shows a snake charmer at work in Negombo. <br> <br>The quality of the photographs speak to Burdon’s skill as a gifted amateur photographer: the photographs are not only of technical interest but have considerable visual appeal. . unknown

Oval print after a technique pioneered by George Baxter 13.1 x 17 cm image size in the original embossed mount approx 20 x 23.5 cm titled and numbered lower right " The Image Boy 49" the image a trifle faded and the mount lighty spotted but overall in good condition preserved in a modern frame. Attractive composition the image adapted from James Collinson’s painting of 1849. LB No 49 CL No 86 "This picture features an Image Boy – a person who made a living selling unglazed plaster or parian-ware models often of classical or religiously significant figures. Such persons are motifs used by a number of other Victorian artists – including William Daniels.Collinson himself first used the subject-matter in a large painting entitled "Italian Image-Boys at a Roadside Alehouse" – his first ‘official’ Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood painting exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1849."
