Bookplate of Theodora Duncan. <p>Label chipped at bottom with the loss two letters. The paper-covered boards free from foxing scuffs or marks excepting some corners somewhat bumped. No edge toning but dust soiling to top edge of pages. Spine lightly and uniformly faded from blue to brown-grey showing only slight wear at the head and foot. Square and solidly bound. Completely free from the usual spotting and foxing of a book this age. The very slightest offsetting to endpapers with internal pages pristine clean white and crisp. Previous owner Theodora Duncan penned her name on a handsome bookplate to front pastedown. All in all the book is attractive and very well-preserved. A very handsome copy indeed. Unopened. On offer is a collection of 32 lengthy newsy emotional letters written between 1942-1947 by a highly respected elderly Hartstown Pennsylvania man to his younger brother. The letters in this archive are written by Myron Manson Miller 1859-1949 to his brother Milo H. Miller 1863-1951. Myron and Milo were born to parents Samuel K. Miller 1822-1896 and Silence Ford Ellis 1828-1899 near Hartstown Crawford County PA. Both made a significant impact on Hartstown. To learn about Myron and Milo Miller SEE BIO NOTES at the end of the listing. Myron is living out his retirement in Hartstown PA. Milo is first living in Pittsburgh and then moves to California. Myrons first letter to Milo is dated August 26 1942. At the time Milo and Maude live in Pittsburgh. Maude would soon pass away on September 14 due to complications of diabetes. Myrons early letters are mainly focused on Maudes medical condition and death. The tone of the letters is brotherly loving and helpful. An excerpt: .I have attended a lot of funerals in my time and looked at the dead but I never saw as beautiful a body as Maudes she looked as though she was going to speak to you and the flowers and all arrangements was perfect

Our regards to Florence and Russ. Has Rob got home yet Sept 28 1942. A few months later Milo travels to California to be with his son Ellis and family. Myrons letters are absolutely packed with news. He shares updates from the community in Hartstown his large family his and Sarahs declining health his views on globally significant affairs such as impacts of the war on food supply and costs. Milo seems to be working on a new genealogy research project on the Martzall family Nov 17 1942 letter but we do not learn much about it. The letters are all long between two and seven pages all packed with content. Rev Haglett the minister is getting married and the community are invented and we expect it will be a swell affair

The balance of the property was bought by a man who married Marie Ellis Thayers oldest daughter June by the name of Urey and they are living in the Case Homestead

Oct 21 1946. While these excerpts aim to give an overview of the content they barely scratch the surface. Myron goes into depth about everything he discusses - his familys personal and career changes his life at home with Sarah Hartstowns many citizens and their life events his views on the government and the war effort and his fears for the future. Some of the many themes of these letters are the challenges of aging in a time of inconsistent communication and transportation rural Pennsylvania daily life the impact of wartime policy on rural Pennsylvania and the many tragedies of loss in old age friends family and ones former self and many more. These letters are an absolute treasure trove of rural Pennsylvania and Crawford County history and would make a tremendous addition to the collection of anyone interested in aging and survival in the mid 20th century. This archive contains a total of 32 letters: 1942 11 letters 1943 10 letters 1944 1 letter 1945 1 letter 1946 8 letters and 1947 1 letter. The letters are all written in dark pencil with a legible hand. Some of the letters are hole punched and bound with string some are unbound. All are in overall Good condition with only minimal signs of age and wear. Overall Good. BIO NOTES ON MYRON AND MILO MILLER: Myron trained under Joe Ellis and became a self-employed harness maker. He was a respected member of the Hartstown community living his entire life there. In 1897 Myron became postmaster of Hartstown and served for 38 years. He also acted as the local school director member of town council tax collector and town clerk. Myron married Sarah Mitchell 1861-1949 in 1882. They had three children Rollin Samuel and James. The younger two boys lived to adulthood and had children of their own. Myron was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. In his retired years when he was writing to Milo it was clear that Myron kept close track of their careers and lives and remained politically and socially engaged. Milo worked as an education professional and his hobby was genealogy. He spent his career in education after graduating from Allegheny College. He worked as a principal and head of schools in Girard and Knoxville. In 1894 Milo married Maude Moriarty 1870-1942. They had two children Florence Imogen Miller later Willison and Ellis Miller. Milo devoted many years of his life to his genealogical research. He wrote a book on the Ellis family tracing his mothers lineage in Hartston Pennsylvania. The book History and Genealogy of the John Ellis Family 1797 - 1935 was published in 1936 in Pittsburgh for private distribution. It can be accessed online as of 2025. Milo retired in 1933. On offer is a one of a kind collection of over one hundred articles covering the state of war-torn Europe and the London Olympics compiled into an unpublished book that the author has titled "The Land Of Our Ancestors". The author of these articles is Telford Work 1896-1992. Among other things Work was a dynamic and cutting-edge businessman who made huge changes to the world of newspaper publishing. He is best known as the one-time publisher of Los Angeles Daily Journal founder of the California Newspaper Service Bureau and City News Service a Los Angeles Civic Center wire service. To learn more about Telford Work see BIO NOTES at end of listing. In these compiled articles Work identifies himself as a City News Service Correspondent. All of these articles are written between July 4 and October 1 1948. During this time Work chronicles a trip he is taking across Europe where he covers the 1948 Olympics and keenly observes the state of Europe in the years immediately following the war. While this trip was intended for pleasure it was obviously a working holiday. He wrote nearly daily sometimes more than once a day. He wrote in diary style. Each entry contains his observations about his travel to the 1948 London Olympics plus further trips to Holland France Belgium Ireland Scotland many parts of England and while at sea. Work submitted the articles contained within this collection to various American news outlets as daily newsletters and many of them were published. Notably the Whittier News published his submissions as daily stories over the course of his trip. The first article they published was from July 13 1948 the final published October 15 1948. Importantly they were not published in order. The Oct 15 article for example was from September 11 when Work was writing from Ireland. Work's writings have a for-the-folks-and-friends back home feel and the entire read makes for a keen eyed look at war torn Europe and the mix of politics and sport of the day. This piece of journalistic history would be an asset to anyone interested in early 20th century journalism post-war Europe or Olympic history. The manuscript covers are original paper wraps bound with two tacks in this 8.5 x 11 in. Approx. Typewritten with a few handwritten corrections and his holograph name and address on the first page. Some bending and age toning. Normal wear. Overall Good. This listing was re-researched and re-written in 2025. BIO NOTES: Telford Work was born in Colorado and later settled in Venice California where his father founded and built Venice High School. He attended the University of Southern California USC. Work had a long career in the newspaper business. He was editor of Trench and Camp a weekly newspaper co-sponsored by the YMCA and LA Times during World War I. He later purchased the Parlier Progress newspaper when he moved there with his wife Ada after the war. He later added to his Cooperative Newspaper Union by purchasing the Selma Enterprise Alta Advocate Sanger Times and the Del Ray Enterprise. He established Pacific Palisades first newspaper The Palisadian. From 1941-1954 Work was an owner of the City News Service a Los Angeles civic center wire service and a publisher of the LA Daily Journal. In the 1970s he spent 10 yeas as publisher of the Baja Californian in La Paz. He participated actively in the CNPA the National Newspaper Association the American Newspaper Publishers' Association the Association of Court and Commercial Newspapers and the Inter-American Press Association. Melita is a first generation American and the oldest daughter of Hungarian immigrants who came to New York a few years before she was born. She paints pictures with her words and her diary reads more like a romantic comedy than a stuffy record of another century. And does she ever have feelings! While Melita is respectful of the social norms of her household and society she has an unquenchable excitement for the womanhood and independence that lies ahead. Ah the suspense was terrible! ! Some very businesslike individual tried to carry on a flirtation. And me looking like an add for Nitwit College. Here I stood - pastry box in one and hand
gift in the other. Some picture! ! ! And soon the train pulled in
I ran the length of it but in the wrong direction. I had hot and cold flashes. Still no Doro. Far down at the other end appeared a very familiar figure. Doro! ! ! Here at last
I presented her with the package and pretty soon ah all too soon the time was up and Doro was gone! ! ! Woe is me. Brief but happy interlude

the biggest thrill Ive ever had tho was when John Michael presented me with a blue velvet box and the object it contained made me swallow hard. A diamond to seal our engagement. This diary would be an awesome addition to the collection of anyone interested in womens lived experiences in the early 20th century the Syracuse region Malita is regularly out and about at sports events parties shows parks and more courtship in the 1930s and the evolution of language. Malita makes excellent use of popular language of the time and her writing is worth a second look. The diary is about 9x5 inches. It is in very good condition with minor signs of age. The hardcovers and spine are intact and all pages are attached and in good shape. The writing is very legible. For about 70% of 1935 Melita writes voraciously. Her entries are thrilling even when they should be dull because Melita herself is thrilling. Another 20% of the diary contains very brief entries - usually just a sentence quickly marking the main event of the day. There are a few dates left blank but she writes something on about 90% of the pages. Overall G. BIO NOTES: Melita Mary Goal later West 1914-2013 was the eldest child born to Anna Waltz/Walcz and Josef Joseph Gaal later Goal. Anna and Joseph both immigrated from Hungary in 1910 with Anna arriving five months before Joseph. They married in New York in February 1914 and Melita was born almost exactly nine months later in December. Melita graduated from Blodgett Vocational High School in Syracuse. She worked as a bookkeeper for State Mutual Life Assurance Co. And as a bank teller at First Trust and Deposit Co. In 1936 Melita married John Michael West 1913-1989. John was a Navy aviation and radio technician in WWII and then worked for the US Government Defense Contracts Administration Services in Syracuse. Melita and John had four sons: twins John Stephen and Michael Joseph George Andrew and Joseph Alexander. This book was published at the outbreak of war in 1939. It details the Air-Raid Precautions Act 1937 and The Civil Defence Act 1939. It goes on to give details of the technical applications of the act and detailed plans for the construction of bomb shelters. A fascinating book which shows little sign of wear. The off-white cloth covers are slightly dirty but the book is remarkably well preserved. "When this book was written there was still peace - although most people felt that it hung on a slender thread. Since then war has broken out and the need for protection has become even more urgent. The first chapter of this book deals with legal provisions. The Civil Defence Act 1939 and the Air Raid Precautions Act 1937 are not superceded in any way by the emergency laws passed by Parliament during the first few days of war. The standard of protection has been fixed by the Government and has been set out in a number of official publications. At present there is no reason to believe that this standard will be altered in any way and Chapters 2 to 12 which contain a description of all that the technician should know of Civil Protection will enable him to give assistance not only in the more usual cases but also where incidental problems require special attention. The most important document for the technician is the Revised Code for 'Air Raid Shelters for Persons working in Factories Mines and Commercial Buildings' which was published by the Government at the end of August 1939. We are gratified that a great many of the suggestions made previously in our analysis of the Government standards in 'The Architect's Journal' of June 1 and 8 have been incorporated. The text of the Code together with the texts of those other Government publications which are of direct importance to the technician has been reproduced in full. Special attention is drawn to Chapter 11 which deals with public shelters. The knowledge of how to arrange public shelters so that they fulfill their obligations that is to say that they are within easy distance of everybody who may be in need of protection is not widely spread and this chapter has been particularly devoted to this subject. Many arguments have been put forward for and against bomb-proof shelters and while we do not want to enter into this controversy the fact may have to be faced that sooner or later bomb-proof shelters may become essential in certain cases. Therefore all available material for the design of such shelters has been collected and formulae for the thickness of slabs walls etc. have been set out. The collecting of these formulae was simplified by the publication by the Government in the middle of June 1939 of Handbook No 5 which gives certain valuable data. Some of the graphs and formulae given in the Handbook have been reproduced. It was found to be most practicable to present the facts in the following manner :- In Chapter 13 the main actions of bombs have been set out while Chapter 14 deals with the incidental effects in alphabetical order. Chapter 15 describes the various types of bomb-proof shelters. These Chapters and particularly the tables at the end of Chapter 13 should enable any engineer to design bomb-proof shelters if he is called upon to do so." Rockne Rides Again: One Mans Monument Is Anothers Sweet Machine
<p>Antique Cars; Rockne Cars; Notre Dame; Knute Rockne; This is an article that appeared in the Scene Magazine of Dallas January 1 1978 whereby the writer Dean Boswell interviewed the then proud owner Ed Freeman concerning his 1932 Rockne Model 75 4-passenger Coupe named for the great coach Knute Rockne. Rockne Motors Corp. a Studebaker subsidiary produced three cars and a panel delivery truck for the 1932 and 1933 model years. The company and its vehicles were named for Knute K. Rockne to honor his memory as the successful Notre Dame football coach as well as his having been a motivational speaker for Studebaker to its dealers. Rockne died in a commercial airplane crash in Kansas March 31 1931. Nearly 38000 Rocknes were produced from December 1931-July 1933 when production ceased during the Great Depression due to financial difficulties of Studebaker. About 150 Rocknes are believed listed currently in some 14 countries. This a three page magazine cut-out which includes the photographs of Mr. Freeman his Model 75 Rockne and Coach Knute K. Rockne. Long Peter Reynolds Patrick Laing was an American detective fiction and science fiction writer novelist and poet. Her story 'The Thought-Monster' was made into the 1958 film Fiend Without a Face. She co-wrote the 1936 novel Behind the Evidence with William L. Crawford under the combined pseudonym Peter Reynolds. Long's first poem 'Lucifer's Reply' was published in Kaleidograph in the early 1930's. It won first prize in a contest and remains a quite startling piece. After quitting the fields of mysteries and science fiction poetry became Long's predominant interest and she continued to write poems for the rest of her life. A number of her poems were published in various journals and periodicals such as the Nutmegger Encore The Harrisburg Evening News and The Swordsman Review. The Pennsylvania Poetry Society of which she was a member printed two chapbook collections of her previously published poetry work in 1974 Shreds and Patches and 1975 Counterpoint. Her name lives on in the Pennsylvania Poetry Society's Amelia Reynolds Long Memorial Award. It is clear that Long had a gift for creating works of studied beauty with an often poignant human touch. An early un-named owner obviously a knowledgeable and proficient gardener has contributed half a page of manuscript notes on the first front blank in which he questions inter alia why the author has not included mustard-seed in the list of all things that a kitchen-garden should contain; there are also neat marginal notes throughout in the same hand - these are in no way detrimental and indeed enhance the book. Evelyn's edition though almost certainly the translation work of George London not only brought the French work to an entirely new audience it added short sections on the culture of orange trees and melons which were not in the original. Small square octavo 190mm x 120mm pp 16 539 very heavily age-toned with some staining engraved vignette title 31 woodcut illustrations bound in a later full vellum slightly worn and marked marbled endpapers leather title label on spine. Originally in the library of a Franciscan monastery with a semi legible provenance at the base of the spine and an ink signature on either side of the vignette; the ink from the signature has corroded the paper over 400 years with the result being a small hole. The author and brief title is also written on the bottom edge. A later owner was the French mathematician Eugene Prouhet with his stamp on the first blank leaf. A devotee of the doctrine of signatures Porta pushed this theory to great lengths. "The illustrations are helpful in interpreting his point of view. The part of a man's body which is healed by a particular herb or the animal whose bites or stings can be cured by it are represented in the same woodcut as the herb. The back view of a human head with a thick crop of hair is introduced into the block with the Maidenhair Fern which is an ancient specific for baldness; a Pomegranate with its seeds exposed and a plant of 'Toothwort' with its hard white scale-leaves are represented in the same figure as a set of human teeth." Small octavo pp xiv 376 illustrated with 19 engraved plates fore-edge a little thumbed but otherwise very clean and crisp internally marbled endpapers contemporary full polished calf a thin decorated gilt line around the borders a little marked and worn the spine gilt decorated with raised bands lacking the top 25mm of the spine and lacking small portions at the top of each joint the joints cracking slightly. still an attractive copy. In Vegetable Staticks Hales studied transpiration - the loss of water from the leaves of plants. He estimated the surface area of the leaves of the plant and the length and surface area of the roots. This allowed Hales to compare the calculated influx of water into the plant with the amount of water leaving the plant by transpiration through the leaves. He also measured 'the force of the sap' or root pressure. Hales commented that "plants very probably draw through their leaves some part of their nourishment from the air". He prefigured the cohesion theory of water movement in plants although his ideas were not understood at the time so he did not influence the debate on water transport in plants in the 19th century. He also speculated that plants might use light as a source of energy for growth i.e. photosynthesis based on Isaac Newtons suggestion that "gross bodies and light" might be interconvertible. He also describes experiments that showed that "air freely enters plants not only with the principal fund of nourishment by the roots but also thro the surface of their trunks and leaves". While Hales work on the chemistry of air appears primitive by modern standards its importance was acknowledged by Antoine Lavoisier the discoverer of oxygen. Hales invention of the pneumatic trough to collect gases over water is also considered a major technical advance. RARE. An appendix was published four years later. Thomas Purton was a surgeon who practised in London and in Alcester. He is particulalrly remembered for his mycological collections. This work was praised by Sir James Smith for its accuracy but a little damned by Sir Charles Hastings for "its interminable additions corrections and appendices". Blanche Henrey 1255 devoting a page of text and three illustrations to it - "long remained popular and quotations from it are to be found in many 17th and 18th century books on English gardening". This third English editiuon is the only one to include the extra plate. It was originally published in France in 1665. Lacking a large corner of pages 65/66 and replaced with a paper repair; the text has been copied in manuscript and the missing portion of the maze parterre has been very carefully copied and is barely noticeable apart from the different paper colour see images. Neatly bound in a fairly modern full calf small raised bands and red morocco label. When first published in 1617/1618 this was the first gardening book intended for the conditions of the North of England and the Country Housewife's Garden the first English gardening book for women. Illustrated with many hundreds of half-page woodcuts. pp 14 922 13 the title page is laid down and has slight losses the next leaf is restored at the corner with no loss of text the preliminary index is a bit thumbed and marked a little marginal staining to the last hundred pages a little marginal staining and marking on occasional pages but overall very firm and tight and in better condition than many copies. There are very neat early manuscript notes on many pages mainly limited to the common English names. Contemporary simple lined calf rebacked and with new endpapers in the early twentieth century with the original spine laid down. An inked paper title label on the spine. The Hartland Library copy with labels and manuscript notes attached to the front endpapers. RARE. The Library was formed by Edwin Sydney Hartland and was a diverse but major collection of herbals archaeology and anthropology. It was donated to Gloucestershire County Council in 1936 and was eventually dispersed around 2010. This the first edition of a digest of Mattioli's commentaries on Dioscorides expressed in the form of an encyclopedia of plants giving synonyms classification description locale and medicinal qualities and uses. A careful student of botany he described 100 new plants and coordinated the medical botany of his time in his Discorsi "Commentaries" on the Materia Medica of Dioscorides. The first edition of Mattioli's work appeared in 1544 in Italian. In addition to identifying the plants originally described by Dioscorides Mattioli added descriptions of some plants not in Dioscorides and not of any known medical use thus marking a transition from the study of plants as a field of medicine to a study of interest in its own right. In addition the woodcuts in Mattioli's work were of a high standard allowing recognition of the plant even when the text was obscure. A noteworthy inclusion is an early variety of tomato the first documented example of the vegetable being grown and eaten in Europe. There is also an early illustration of a coconut. First Edition. Two volumes bound in one 12mo pp 2 212; 4 288 lightly age-toned throughout with the occasional page with mild foxing otherwise very sound internally contemporary half calf and marbled boards rubbed slightly worn at the corners rebacked at some point with a later calf spine. The Oates-Selborne copy with the bookplate of Robert Washington Oates the later presentation labels to the Gilbert White Museum in1955 and the tiny Bibliotecha Oatesiana stamp on the final page. With the earlier bookplate of the surgeon John Wheeley Gough Gutch. A pirated edition without illustrations. It seems scarce - I have only been able to trace two other copies from this publisher in libraries. It is curious that two printers seem to have been involved - H. Price for the first volume and Kaygill on the colophon of the second. There is no seperate title page for the second volume and this seems consistent with the copies on record. In his mid-thirties Lawrence published two books of his lectures which contained pre-Darwinian ideas on man's nature and effectively on evolution. The book was immediately attacked by Abernethy and others for materialism and for undermining the moral welfare of the people. He was forced to withdraw the 1819 first edition after fierce criticism; the Lord Chancellor ruled it blasphemous. However the book's notoriety was such that several publishers issued their own pirated editions keeping the work in print for several decades. Darwin owned one of the unauthorized editions listed above the one issued by "the notorious shoemaker-turned-publisher William Benbow who financed his flaming politics by selling pornographic prints" Desmond & Moore Darwin p. 253. Darwin was obviously impressed with Lawrence's work citing it five times in The Descent of Man 1871. Lawrence over the later years became a pillar of the establishment. T.H. Huxley submitted the proof of his "Man's Place in Nature" to him for errors. Lawrence could find none but gave a severe warning of the dangers of publication. On offer are three sensational original portfolios containing the original art and personal diary of the renowned tattoo artist Mike 'John Michael' Wingate who sometimes signed himself John 'Mike' Wingate 1952-2007. Mr. Wingate was born in Long Beach California and moved with his family to Yuma Arizona where he graduated from Kofa High School obtained his Associate Arts degree from Arizona Western College and his BFA from Arizona State University. Wingate graduated in approximately 1987 and began the first of these books either during his time at ASU or soon after. Following graduation Mike lived in the Los Angeles region spent a few years in Haines and Juneau Alaska pursuing art commissions and opening a tattoo business. Ultimately he would relocate to Washington where he would spend the rest of his days dying in Port Angeles in 2007. The folios contain Wingate's work over the course of 11 years. Two of the books primarily contain art and business-related notes while the third is a gigantic diary that takes us into the heart and mind of this talented yet troubled man. Substance use is a secondary theme throughout. Wingate even with hints in his business plan that he needs to straighten up and fly right. In many ways this archive is representative of the post 1970s free love drug era coming to a close and the evolution to the more cynical '80s. The first folio is dated December 1978 on the inside front cover. It begins with dozens of pages of Wingate's pencil drawings and then contains several pages of his personal notes indicating his concepts for growing his art business plans to move to Alaska and ideas for who to approach to commission his work. He includes drafts of cover letters ideas for types of services he could offer mural creation ghostwriting painting design cartoons and goals for personal improvement. He draws concepts that appear to be related to his Alaskan mural proposal and includes a stunning though eerie pen drawing relating to his substance use. He also includes some political art that looks like it's intended to be turned into a Boycott Exxon sign comparing the American oil and gas company to the N-zi regime writing "Using the environment just as Hitler used humanity." . This folio appears to have been kept over many years as there is one piece of art dated to 1989. The second folio contains only Wingate's artwork. It is undated and lists the names and addresses of two of Wingate's contacts on the inside front cover both apparently from Arizona so it is possible this folio was kept while Wingate was in art school in Arizona. The drawings range from nudes to landscape scenes to religious commentary to what appears to be plans for art installations to portraits. It would not be surprising if this was one of his student art folios from either Arizona State U or Arizona Western College. Wingate's drawings are bold and distinctly his own. The final folio is a remarkable diary kept by Wingate which he begins in December 1987 and keeps until April 1989. Wingate details his life and thoughts to the hour at times when his entries are made and he exhibits not a little what seems to be creativity from the bottle or some other substance. His entries are generally very long detailed and rambling sometimes running for multiple pages. He discusses his daily life living and working in Alaska the ups and downs of his tumultuous relationship with Barbara his model girlfriend his friends and lovers his travels his planning his art his tattoo business and more. Some excerpts follow beginning with an interesting one where Wingate shares his memories of life in Arizona where he spent his formative years: ".A swimming pool at ASU and a hotel. An Coast Guard aircraft trying to land and its wings taking on impossible flying angles asking my brother if he would like to go swimming but being reminded that the pool was closed. The recurring feeling that this area around me was flat and desert type. These were some fragments of my dreams.I realize I'm only scratching the surface." November 1988. ".Made burger and beer run for lunch. Bumped into Stoney seems that we may have to re-do Capital Copy's bus logo. O well.saw John Ellis in hall and talked about his signs which he still doesn't know what he wants an possible advance of 750.00 for tattoo's and life.fired up my pipe and now back to the drawing." June 1988. ".Don't know how long this relationship with Barbara will last. Must admit I am interested in other women. Needed some happiness. Lost mom money problems but Tattoo business doing ok. Bike needs repairs not getting commissions out of the way my brother and sister thing I'm gay. IRS wants money student loans not paid. And if I kill myself I'll piss God off." January 1989. Wingate's massive narrative writing begins while he is in 'Barbara's cabin' which we reckon is the Skagway Alaska part of Wingate's personal journey thought Barbara does seem to spend most of her time in Los Angeles. This giant effort of art and narrative stand as a unique relic of the life of a wildly talented and passionate yet troubled human being which will bear much more scrutiny by historians and researchers in the future. Three large 11" x 14" folio sketchbooks. The first book is 95% handwritten diary like entries; the second is almost 100% drawings and sketches and the third journal about half full. There is a little foxing and browning throughout a neat contemporary inscription on each front endpaper and the contents show very slight signs of use with very slight thumbing. The pictorial boards showing a curtained theatrical setting of children in an idyllic landscape are slightly rubbed with edges a little worn.
