It is said to be based on the life of Abolhasan Khan Ilchi who served as the Iranian Ambassador to England from about 1810 to 1813 and wrote Heyratnameh The Book of Wonders the account of his travels to England. James Morier 1782-1849 traveled with Ilchi to England and then accompanied him back to Iran. With his knowledge of Eastern life and manners he wrote several entertaining novels. The most popular of these was "The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan" 1824 and its sequel "The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan in England" 1828. These were followed by "Zohrab the Hostage" 1832 ; "Ayesha the Maid of Kars" 1834 ; and "The Mirza" 1841 all full of brilliant description character-painting and delicate satire. . C1900s ORIGINAL GROUP OF 15 HANDWRITTEN SPANISH-LANGUAGE MANUSCRIPTS OF "THE PROCLAMATION OF LIBERTY AND THE UNPARDONABLE SIN" BY A REBEL SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST THEOLOGIAN AND PREACHER
On offer is a superb archive of 15 original early 20th century edited manuscript notebooks of the Spanish-language version of Albion F. Ballenger's 1915 publication "The Proclamation of Liberty and the Unpardonable Sin." <br /><br />The covers of the notebooks are labelled from Proclama I to Proclama XV. Each contains approximately 38 pages and together they make up the complete handwritten Spanish-language manuscript of Ballenger's book "The Proclamation of Liberty and the Unpardonable Sin." The title page reads "La Proclama de Libertad y el Pecado Imperdonable Por Albion F. Ballenger." The notebooks contain proofreaders' marks with minor corrections to words and punctuation pasted-in clippings of Spanish bible passages to be quoted in the book and directions on the placement of figures and illustrations. Comments relating to the corrections are made in English. One such comment in Proclama I reads "Do never use the old form Jesu-Cristó. Say Jesucristó . you do not employ the Biblical form Jesús el Cristó." <br /><br />The manuscripts' author Albion Fox Ballenger was born in Illinois in 1861. He and his brother Edward whose personal diary #0001987 is also available for purchase both became Seventh-day Adventist ministers. Albion Ballenger later began questioning the church's sanctuary doctrine and published his opinions despite threats from the church. When he refused to accept the position of the Seventh-day Adventist Church they stripped him of his ministerial credentials. He published the book "Forty Fatal Errors Regarding the Atonement" in 1913 and "The Proclamation of Liberty and the Unpardonable Sin" in 1915. He also founded a magazine titled "The Gathering Call." <br /><br />For religious scholars these notebooks provide valuable primary-source material. They are also a fantastic addition to any historian's or rare-book collector's library.

This small diary covers the historically fascinating period of January to December 1929 encompassing the onset of the Great Depression. It is an excellent resource for an urban historian painting an intimate picture of the life of a retired couple right at the time when things would begin to go terribly wrong for both Buffalo and the American economy. Stevenss lengthy diary entries describe his life in rich detail: Has been a cool day and I have stayed inside a good share of it and had a time getting fire to burn enough to keep us warm . . . Feb 10 1929 This AM was up early as did not feel good took a walk later did some few things around the house also got some things stood in need of and also did a lot of fixing up. Apr 13 1929 As Eva went in town to see about some things was gone most of day and and didnt get at real work til home again about 8: 30 then spaded a while also few things needed care and later lissened a nice hour of music . . . Aug 9 1929Stevens was born in Evans New York in 1857 and lived in Buffalo with his wife Eva. Together they raised a family of 4 children. A City of Buffalo Directory indicates that Stevens was an engineer. He passed away in 1938 at the age of 81 and his wife passed away the same year. At the onset of the Great Depression Buffalo New York had 573000 inhabitants making it the thirteenth-largest city in the United States. Because of its location and the proximity of the Erie Canal connecting it to New York City Buffalo had become an industrial powerhouse. However with the Great Depression came severe unemployment especially among working class men. President Franklin Roosevelts New Deal relief programs operated in full force but the citys days as a great industrial center had passed and the population declined precipitously after World War Two never to recover. The diary measures 5.25 inches by 2.75 inches and contains 121 pages. The covers and pages are in good condition. The binding is intact but the spine is cracked. These included many broadsides of popular ballads which do not survive in print but Collier includes the text from manuscript sources in some instances.
