Halévy after Mérimée was first performed in Paris at the Opéra-Comique on 3 March 1875 under the baton of Adolphe Deloffre 1817-1876. <br /> <br /> "Bizet might have surpassed all the many composers active in France in the last third of the 19th century had it not been for his untimely death at the age of 36.
