br. Chi è il somaro? È un essere umano tanto babbeo da ritenersi tanto intelligente da riuscire a sapere e capire le cose senza averle studiate. Però vale la pena fidarsi, perché l'alternativa è costituita dal buio, dall'oscurantismo e - quando si scherza con la salute propria e altrui - dalla morte. La scienza sarà anche poca cosa, ma - come dimostra questo libro con abbondanza di dati, numeri, tabelle, storie vere di trionfi e fallimenti - è tutto quello su cui possiamo contare: non ci conviene buttarla via.
