(44) con 20 illustrazioni a metà pagina (fra cui quella con la figura del drago al frontespizio), una pianta di Livorno a doppia pagina, una carta geografica a doppia pag. delle province di Bologna, Ravenna e Ferrara, una tavola a metà pagina su due pagine, raffigurante l'eclissi del primo satellite di Giove e due tavole a piena pagina, ciascuna divisa in tre parti, tutte incise in rame da Wouters su disegno dello stesso Meyer. Legatura in mezza pergamena settecentesca e piatti in cartone rigido azzurro. Edizione originale della prima parte di questa opera, assai complessa nella sua pubblicazione (questa prima parte ad esempio fu edita sette anni dopo la seconda e di conseguenza considerata completa a se). Dedica al Granduca di Toscana Cosimo III. L'opera fu pubblicata, come spiega il Meyer nella prefazione al lettore, per reazione all'edizione non autorizzata di una traduzione francese del suo "Arte di restituire a Roma la tralasciata navigazione del suo Tevere" che Stephane Michallet editò nel 1693. Le belle e curiose tavole raffigurano le invenzioni dell'autore per la "perfezione dell'architettura idraulica", ordigni per scavare pali, modi di eliminare i sassi sotto acqua, di condurre le acque sorgenti nelle città, macchine per dragare porti, la calamita, ed inoltre la già citata eclissi, gli occhiali ed altro. This copy is from the library of and bears the small ink stamp of Robert B. Sosman. A geophysicist and physical chemist Robert Browning Sosman received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1907 at the age of 26. By 1908 he had joined the Geo-Physical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution. Dr. Sosman worked at the Geo-Physical Laboratory for 20 years serving 8 years as Assistant Director. During World War I his contributions there were instrumental in establishing America's capacity for manufacturing optical glass. In 1928 he left to join the United States Steel Corporation as Assistant Director of Research. Following his retirement from U.S. Steel in 1947 he became visiting professor of Ceramics at Rutgers University. Dr. Sosman was a past president of the American Ceramic Society. In his honor the Society established The Robert B. Sosman Award "the highest recognition of scientific accomplishment given by the Basic Science Division. in recognition of outstanding achievement in basic science of an area that results in a significant impact to the field of ceramics." . Il volume "Fondamenti di tecnica delle costruzioni" nasce con l'intento di colmare una lacuna nel panorama italiano, ma anche internazionale, in cui manca un testo che fornisca una visione unitaria e organica dell'argomento, proponendo una trattazione sistematica dei diversi sistemi costruttivi. Il panorama progettuale, infatti, è oggi estremamente variegato e versatile, soprattutto in un'epoca in cui si guarda sempre di più all'ottimizzazione e all'integrazione delle prestazioni strutturali, energetiche e produttive, oltre che all'uso efficiente e sostenibile dei diversi materiali nell'edilizia corrente e specialistica. Il testo, aggiornato al D.M. 17 gennaio 2018 e relativa Circolare applicativa e pensato non solo per i corsi inseriti nelle lauree triennali di Ingegneria e Architettura, di cui presenta in maniera completa tutti i contenuti richiesti, ma anche come linea guida e punto di partenza per le discipline caratterizzanti le lauree magistrali, è contraddistinto da una spiccata prospettiva didattica. Per ogni argomento, infatti, vengono sviluppati gli elementi teorici di base, comprensivi dei richiami alla Normativa tecnica, e sistematici inquadramenti applicativi dei sistemi costruttivi e dei loro aspetti pratici e di cantiere.

In questo volume si parlerà di Rischio Strutturale degli edifici esistenti in muratura ordinaria, dando un quadro generale del problema, delle sue definizioni e degli elementi essenziali, con una particolare attenzione alle metodologie per la sua valutazione e riduzione, consolidate a livello scientifico internazionale ed effettivamente utilizzabili da parte di tutti gli operatori del settore. Il problema è estremamente articolato, perché coinvolge da un lato la sicurezza della società, intesa come sistema complesso in tutte le sue componenti (assetto urbano ed edilizio, infrastrutture e servizi, identità sociale e culturale, tessuto economico...), e dall'altro il coordinamento di competenze numerose e diversificate, con l'attivazione di complesse azioni e meccanismi decisionali e attuativi. Partendo dalla conoscenza dei fenomeni fisici coinvolti e dal loro impatto sull'ambiente costruito, grazie all'ampia e complessa interazione tra diverse discipline (sismologia, geologia e geotecnica, ingegneria strutturale, architettura, informatica, economia, sociologia, scienze statistiche e matematiche), nella prima parte si propongono i più avanzati metodi di progettazione antisismica e di analisi e mitigazione del rischio degli edifici esistenti in muratura ordinaria, con particolare attenzione alla vulnerabilità del patrimonio architettonico a valenza culturale. La seconda parte del volume riporta l'analisi del Restauro Strutturale di Palazzo Carmelo a Cerignola, edificio storico del Cinquecento, esempio emblematico delle procedure da utilizzare in applicazione delle Norme Tecniche vigenti in materia. Il commento dei risultati ottenuti e applicati al caso reale consente inoltre di porre a confronto alcuni tra i più utilizzati software di analisi strutturale esistenti sulla materia.
