Per chi non ha familiarità con i metodi biologici, potrebbe essere complicato classificare attraverso descrizioni di tecnologie complesse e metodi statistici, apprendere il ruolo di dozzine di regioni del cervello, ormoni e neurotrasmettitori, e ottenere una visione chiara di cosa la ricerca può e non può dirci sulla psicopatia.
