Nunmehr liegt das Werk in einer neuen, siebenten Auflage, vor. Daß sich an den grundlegenden Thesen des Buches nichts geändert hat und auch nichts zu ändern brauchte, ist in dem Charakter des Buches begründet, das zum ersten Male für weiteste Kreise verständlich die Gesetze der Dramaturgie aus den ewig gültigen Elementen des Theaters ableitet. Die enge Bindung von Theater, Hörspiel und Film ist dabei ebenso treffend wie neu gesehen und herausgearbeitet. -- Was den Erfolg des Müllerschen Buches bedingt, ist die Tatsache, daß es ein Mann der Praxis und kein Theoretiker schrieb. "Die Wissenschaft hat nur dann einen sozialen Wert", sagt Dr. Müller, "wenn ihre Ergebnisse praktisch anwendbar sind." Hunderte von Zuschriften haben bewiesen, daß die Jugend ebenso wie der erfahrene Schriftsteller sich hier angesprochen fühlen. Auch das Ausland interessierte sich für das Werk, das als einzige deutsche Dramaturgie der neueren Zeit auf der Film-Biennale in Venedig zu finden war und in das amerikanische Film-Schrifttum eingegangen ist. -- Wolfgang Liebeneiner, der bekannte deutsche Filmregisseur, leitet das Buch mit einem Beitrag über das Thema "Spielleiter und Dichter" ein. Das Werk führt durch die gesamte Theatergeschichte des Abendlandes vom Standpunkt der Dramaturgie aus und behandelt alle entscheidenden Fragen der Handlungsführung, der dramatischen Wirkungen und des richtigen, kunstgerechten Aufbaus des Theaterstückes, des Hörspiels und des Films. ‎* Das vorliegende Buch ist aus gleichnamigen Vorlesungen entstanden, die wir seit langerer Zeit an den Universitaten Stuttgart bzw. Karlsruhe halten. Diese Vorlesungen sind Wahlfacher für Studenten der Nachrichtentechnik und verwandter Gebiete in hoheren Semestern. Allerdings war es nicht die Absicht des Herausgebers, in seine Suchreihe 'Nachrichtentechnik' einen reinen Vorlesungstext aufzunehmen. Ange strebt wurde vielmehr eine umfassende Darstellung nach Art einer Monographie. Wir haben versucht, diesem Wunsch zu entsprechen, ohne dabei die Verwendbarkeit dieses Textes in Vorlesungen einschranken zu wollen. Die Nachrichenmeßtechnik befaBt sich mit den MeBmethoden und -verfahren, die der direkten Messung iibertragungstechnischer GroBen dienen. Sie ist daher weitgehend auf die Anwendung in bestimmten Nachrichtensysternen ausgerichtet, wodurch sie sich von der klassischen MeBtechnik unterscheidet. Allerdings kann die Vielfalt moderner Nachrichtensysteme zu einer Zersplitterung führen, die gegeniiber der klassischen MeBtechnik eine systematische Behandlung sehr erschwert. Das zeigt sich u.a. daran, daB es viele Einzelveroffentlichungen, jedoch kaum zusammenfassende Darstellungen gibt. Dieser Umstand hat zur Entstehung des Suches beigetragen. Der gesamte Stoff ist in sieben Kapiteln dargestellt, wovon jedes einer bestimmten MeBaufgabe gewidmet ist. Nur das letzte Kapitel weicht von diesem Schema ab; in ihm sind aile MeBaufgaben zusammengefaBt, die fOr digitale Systeme typisch sind. Hier ist also nicht das Meßproblem, sondern das Meßobjekt bestimmend gewesen.‎
