In-8°, pp. 19 + 2 diagrammi in 1 TAVOLA ripiegata f.t. Bross. edit. rosa in parte scolorita. Fioriture, ma intonso. La costante solare è la quantità di energia radiante che arriva sulla Terra dal Sole per unità di tempo e superficie (quindi una potenza per unità di superficie), misurata sulla superficie superiore dell'atmosfera terrestre, su un piano perpendicolare ai raggi solari. Un primo calcolo, decisamente errato, fu fatto da Langley nel 1884. Qui cita l'apparecchio di Angstrom, e altre osservazioni "poco numerose" (passaggio di Taldik, e a Kisil Art) e varie formule; in effetti stavano appena cominciando osservazioni a diverse altitudini e località, che finirono solo nel 1957 con fati assai più bassi. RIZZO, meteorologo e fisico, docente a Torino, fu poi Rettore dell'Univ.di Messina dal 1909 e fautore della sua ripresa iniziata a fatica nel 1911.

Mancano tutte le nostre irrinunciabili comodità, come profumate toilette, cibi esotici, la possibilità di fare romantiche camminate o di contemplare la variopinta bellezza dei fiori. Come reagirebbero il nostro corpo e la nostra psiche a tutte queste privazioni? Cosa succederebbe se durante il viaggio ci trovassimo a vomitare nel nostro casco da astronauti? Se fossimo costretti per settimane a non curare la nostra igiene? Se nei lunghi viaggi a bordo delle navicelle ci fosse precluso di fare l'amore? Per dare una risposta a tutti questi quesiti le agenzie spaziali hanno allestito sulla Terra innovativi e bizzarri ambienti per simulare le situazioni più estreme: prove dure e allo stesso tempo stravaganti alle quali deve sottoporsi chiunque desideri avventurarsi nell'universo. Mary Roach descrive in modo arguto, divertente e irriverente tutti i compromessi che dovremmo accettare per lasciare il nostro pianeta e andare a vivere su Marte, raccontando aneddoti e incidenti - spesso tragicomici - capitati agli astronauti mentre si trovavano a fluttuare nel cosmo. Il retrace sa vie errante et mouvementée à travers lEurope pour la défense de ses pensées complexes et considérables. Il rend évidente linfluence de celles-ci durant le XVIIe siècle, dans les recherches de Kepler, Galilée, Newton, mais aussi dans les débats philosophiques avec Descartes, Pascal, Spinoza et les libertins érudits qui annoncent les Lumières. Son uvre ne concerne pas seulement la matière, le ciel et ses infinis, elle interroge lexistence humaine, lexpression poétique, la religion, la philosophie, le langage, lesprit de tolérance Écrit comme un roman et un grand reportage, ce panorama permet de saisir lorigine des idées de notre système du monde et de notre place en son sein, que de nouveaux obscurantistes veulent mettre en pièces.
