In folio; 44 pp. Brossura editoriale con titolo, autore, editore e anno di stampa, impressi in nero al piatto anteriore. Esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima edizione di questa importante monografia dedicata alla cometa 1909I la Borrelly-Daniel, scritta dal celebre astronomo e accademico italiano, Luigi Gabba (Torino, 18 dicembre 1872 – Borgomanero, 28 settembre 1948). L’autore, laureatosi a Torino in ingegneria, iniziò, subito dopo la laurea, ad interessarsi ad astronomia frequentando gli osservatori astronomici di Torino, lavorando sotto, Lorenzo Porro e poi anche quello di Roma. Nel 1901 entrò alla Specola di Brera con la qualifica di assistente incaricato di Giovanni Celoria. Dal 1917 al 1921 divenne direttore della specola di Brera aggiornandone ed aumentandone notevolmente la strumentazione scientifica, aggiungendo anche apparecchi geodetica e meteorologici, aumentando la biblioteca dell’istituto. Nel 1824 divenne professore d’astronomia e l’anno dopo astronomo effettivo della Specola di Brera. Nel 1826, vincendo un concorso, assunse, anche, la direzione dell’Osservatorio astronomico di Teramo. Durante la sua vita insegnò anche all’Università di Milano e a quella di Pavia. Gabba fu autore prolifico scrisse di astronomia sferica ed osservativa, astrometria e meccanica celeste ma anche di storia dell’astronomia. L’opera qui presentata, è la rarissima e dotta dissertazione con la quale Gabba presentò i suoi studi sulla cometa 1909I. La C/1909 L1 (Borrelly-Daniel) è una cometa non periodica, scoperta il 14 giugno 1909 dall’astronomo francese Alphonse Borrelly ed il 15 giugno 1909 dall’astronomo statunitense Zaccheus Daniel. Il 14 giugno 1909 la cometa era di 10,5a, il 18 giugno 1909 raggiunse la 9a, l’8 luglio 1909 il suo nucleo era di 13a. Leggermente rosicchiato il margine superiore della copertina posteriore, per il resto ottime condizioni. Prima edizione. Marco Antonio Grisaldi (1594 – 1646) fu professore di medicina pratica presso l'Università di Perugia. Il suo nome, però, è legato all'astronomia, in quanto pubblicò alcuni scritti tesi a sfatare la superstizione secondo cui le comete erano portatrici di disgrazie. Il più interessante è questo “Cometologia contra portentosam cometarum apparitionem” che è censito in soli 4 esemplari in ICCU. Riccardi I, c. 633. Cantamessa "Astrologia ins & outs", scheda n. 3409: "Importante opera del matematico Grisaldi diretta [...] a negare che il passaggio delle comete sia apportatore di disgrazie [...] La cometa oggetto dell'opera è quella di Halley in uno dei suoi passaggi".

L'esplorazione delle comete. Da Halley a Rosetta
brossura Tra il 2014 e il 2015 la sonda europea Rosetta è riuscita nell'impresa impossibile di immettersi in orbita attorno alla cometa 67P/CG e di far scendere una capsula piena di strumenti sulla sua superficie. Se le immagini ravvicinate della cometa, un mostro a due teste pieno di enigmi geologici, hanno emozionato il mondo intero, le analisi dirette dei materiali superficiali hanno rafforzato negli scienziati l'idea che siano state le comete a trasportare sulla Terra le molecole basilari per la nascita della vita. Un'impresa come quella di Rosetta è nata da lontano, dai tempi del ritorno nel 1986 di Halley, la più famosa delle comete. In una notte da leggenda (quella del 13 marzo) la sonda Giotto scrutò il cuore di Halley scoprendovi una superficie scura ricoperta da materiali carboniosi. Fu uno shock per gli scienziati, che negli anni seguenti allestirono molte missioni in preparazione di Rosetta: in una (Stardust, 2004) vennero catturati e portati a Terra piccoli pezzi di cometa; in un'altra (Deep Impact, 2005) una cometa venne addirittura bombardata e riattivata con un missile. Oggi come in passato il fascino delle grandi comete e delle piogge di meteore ad esse collegate rimane assolutamente irresistibile.

Paris. 1910 first edition. Two issues of Bulletin de la Societe Astronomique de France in original octavo printed yellow wraps. Juin issue offers: Le rencontre d al comete de halley avec la Terre by Camille Fammarion; La comete de Halley by Em. Touchet F Quenisset P jeantet; La comete de Halley dans le Talmud by G. Renaudot and a full page "Photographie cometaire sans retouche " of the Comet by M Max Wolf. Juillet issue offers another article on the Comet by Falmmarion on pp. 297-333 with many small photo illustrations. Both issues in Good condition somewhat worn and toned but intact no tears no owner marks. The appearance of Halley's Comet in 1910 was unusually spectacular as the Comet was only 13.9 million miles from earth. This was the first time the Comet had ever been photographed. . paperback
