L'aspirazione a portare la riflessione filosofica (e, in particolare, quella politica) all'altezza dei risultati raggiunti dalla moderna scienza della natura è alla base della più che trentennale ricerca di Thomas Hobbes sul problema del metodo, il cui filo conduttore è il valore paradigmatico del "modello geometrico". Questo saggio parte dalla convinzione che non si coglie appieno il significato dell'analogia metodica tra geometria e politica quando la si riduca alla semplice esigenza di imitare le doti di ordine logico e rigore deduttivo della geometria euclidea; e tenta di delineare la struttura di quella scienza costruttivistica che proprio nella politica trova il suo più fecondo campo d'applicazione. Sotto questo aspetto, appare così sostanzialmente giustificato il merito che Hobbes stesso si attribuì: quello di aver fondato la scienza della politica superando il modello tradizionale (aristotelico) di sapere pratico-politico. Demetrio Neri (Reggio Calabria, 1947) è professore associato di Filosofia morale presso la Facoltà di Magistero dell'Università di Messina. Oltre a vari saggi ed articoli, ha pubblicato una mono grafia su Babeuf. This is one of several dozen books and periodicals from Alonzo Church's library that we were lucky enough to purchase at auction in New Jersey. Several of the books contain his signature or a presentation inscription to him. Unfortunately this copy does not have those signs of his ownership. But please check our inventory for several others that do. Alonzo Church 1903 - 1995 was professor of mathematics at Princeton University 1929-1967 and of mathematics and philosophy at UCLA 1967-1990. He was the founding editor of the JOURNAL OF SYMBOLIC LOGIC. Among his most influential contributions are Church's Theorem Church's Thesis the Church-Turing Thesis and the Lambda Calculus. His work was of major importance in mathematical logic recursion theory theoretical computer science and functional programming languages in general. Professor Church's creation of lambda calculus was the foundation for the LISP programming language and provided the semantic model for ALGOL. Church was first to demonstrate that David Hilbert's Entscheidungsproblem was unsolvable. It was Church who coined the phrase "Turing machine" for Alan Turing's hypothetical universal computing machine. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Church is regarded by many as the greatest American logician of the 20th century.
