He is 'very much disgusted and indignant against Mr. Clarke for his Impertinence' in calling on the recipient and has 'expressed as much to him'. He discussed with Clarke the question of the number of gentlemen contacting him about the matter and hoped to put Clarke in touch with the recipient. Autograph Letter Signed 'T. Mitchell' from the classical scholar Thomas Mitchell to an unnamed editor 'My dear friend' discussing his work translating Demosthenes.
Ramsdon sic. 24 January 1822. 2pp. 12mo. In a windowpane mount on a leaf removed from an album. The letter itself very good on aged paper; the mount worn at extremities. He begins by informing the recipient that his 'last Letter has made ample atonement for the provocation of the preceding' and he has 'ever been the foremost both in word & deed to keep my wings in motion. I speak this seriously: my former note was only a temporary petulance'. The second paragraph begins: 'I must positively have another Paper for my Orators'. He has 'run to a fearful length & yet have cramped myself all the way. Besides what I enclose I shall have ready as much to forward in the shape of reflexion inferences &c before I enclose with my legal oratory. And then I have the Political Oratory on my hands'. He continues: 'I engage to bring Demosthenes upon the stage in a new manner & when I have him there I should like to shew him to as much advantage as I can'. The letter continues in the same vein with a postscript beginning: 'Let me hear as soon as you can that my time of gestation is extended.' Ramsdon [sic]. 24 January 1822. unknown

In questa nuova autorevole biografia di san Francesco (pubblicata negli USA dalla Cornell University Press, nel 2012), lo studioso domenicano Augustine Thompson è andato alla ricerca del cosiddetto Francesco della storia, al netto delle leggende agiografiche e delle interpretazioni teologiche o culturali. Sul modello della Jesus quest, anche questa Francis quest parte sfatando preliminarmente una serie di tipiche ricostruzioni della figura del Santo che lo arruolano in questa o quella temperie culturale o sociologica: dal Francesco ecologista, romantico, mistico della natura e degli animali, hippie, pacifista o femminista di tante rivisitazioni moderne (cattoliche o laiche) alle interpretazioni teologiche che si sono stratificate - nell'Ordine francescano e fuori - intorno alla biografia storica del Santo. Il proposito di Thompson è stato quello di scarnificare la tradizione delle fonti biografiche francescane per ritrovare il nucleo dei fatti che la critica storica più raffinata può ragionevolmente attribuire alla vita di san Francesco. Quella di Thompson è pertanto una biografia storica e filologica, che porta a compimento in maniera originale il programma iniziato e mai completato da Raoul Manselli con il suo noto San Francesco d'Assisi del 1982. L'opera non si rivolge esclusivamente agli storici, anzi. Si tratta di un'opera leggibile da chiunque abbia un interesse non superficiale alla figura di Francesco, che mette in luce anche la sua dimensione spirituale.

brossura Questo libro è dedicato alla memoria di Monsignor Paolo Ristori di cui contiene le indicazioni per ottenere il Testamento Spirituale Autografo rivolgendosi al Suo Gruppo del Venerdì e contiene l'Omelia del Cardinale Giuseppe Betori tenuta alle esequie di Ristori che ha ispirato la Storia di Firenze del Tognaccini ed in cui viene citato 9 volte in relazione alle vicende della città gigliata. Ma chi è Paolo Ristori? Secondo il settimanale della Cei, "Avvenire", Ristori è uno dei 34 preti scomparsi nella «seconda ondata Covid», 15 in una settimana, Paolo Ristori, 89 anni, per 22 segretario del cardinale Florit e poi a lungo preposto di Santa Maria del Fiore. Fiorentino doc, dal 1973 al 2009 era stato arciprete della Cattedrale incaricato di accogliere il Presidente della Repubblica Ciampi in quel Duomo che ha accolto il suo funerale celebrato dal Cardinale Betori, Paolo è scomparso il 21 novembre 2020. Vite donate non solo alla cura delle anime ma anche, come nel caso di Ristori, alla faticosa e dotta ricerca d'archivio e di traduzione dal latino medievale che poi il dotto prete sapeva trasformare in racconto delle vicende del Duomo e dei suoi aneddoti e della sua storia maggiore, attraverso una narrazione esatta e briosa, colta ma anche altamente divulgativa, sì da rendere piacevole la lettura di un libro di storia della "Chiesa Fiorentina e Clero della Cattedrale dalle origini al Giubileo del 1300": questo è il titolo dell'ultimo libro, qui recensito, che contiene le ultime, dotte ricerche archivistiche di Mons. Paolo Ristori, edito nel 2015 da Pagnini Editore, dove si vede che il nostro autore ha una cultura superiore che comunque non ti fa pesare mentre spiega vita, morte e miracoli di chi lo ha preceduto alla guida del Duomo di Firenze, quello del Cupolone, patria di tutti i Fiorentini in quanto chiesa vescovile voluta dal Comune, al di sopra delle famose contese fra quartieri che in tempi normali esplodono nel famoso "Calcio storico fiorentino".
