In tutto questo si può cogliere anche un risvolto contemporaneo: in filigrana, con grande raffinatezza ed eleganza, affiora, in una ricerca che potrebbe definirsi di storia dell'arte, la flagrante attualità del tema dell'altro.

Il Diario del cardinale Domenico Tardini (1888-1961), relativo agli anni 1936-1944, è un documento singolare, immediato, composto sulla scorta di appunti personali e d'ufficio del celebre prelato romano. Tardini fu Sostituto della Segreteria di Stato dal 1935 ed è un testimone d'eccezione della politica vaticana negli anni dei regimi fascista e nazista e della Seconda guerra mondiale.
