Victorian printed Shakespeare ephemera Illustrated 'Description' of Shakespeare's Birthplace together with tickets of admission to it and to Ann Hathaway's Cottage and a letterhead of the Shakespeare Memorial carrying notes of books.
The first three items dated 1895-6. All items dated in hand 25 October 1895. 'Description' by Edward Fox Printer 1 High Street Stratford-upon-Avon. A nice collection of Victorian Shakespeare ephemera. All four items with text clear and complete on lightly-aged and worn paper. The 'Description' is printed in red on both sides of a piece of paper 13.5 x 18 cm with both vertical edges perforated. 'This may be retained as a Souvenir' along one edge. Dated at end 'RICHARD SAVAGE Secretary and Librarian to the Trustees. 1896-6.' Along head of first page: 'The Committee request that no Gratuities be offered to the Attendants.' Numbered 22989 in black. Engraving 5.5 x 7.5 cm of the building on the recto and 'Ground Plan' and 'First Floor Plan' on the reverse. The two tickets 'Shakespeare's Birthplace "Museum Ticket."' and 'Ann Hathaway's Cottage Admission Ticket Sixpence' both roughly 13 x 8 cm are both printed in black on one side perforated and signed in type by Savage with the date 1895-6. Both with stamped numbers. The letterhead 'Shakespeare Memorial Stratford-on-Avon' in gothic type is a 12mo bifolium with the details of two books in manuscript on the first page. It has as have the other three items '25.10.95' in manuscript at the foot. The first three items dated 1895-6. All items dated in hand 25 October 1895. Collects the four pieces 'La Chaumiere Indienne', 'Le Café de Surate', 'Voyage en Silisie', and 'Immensite de la Nature'. The engraved title bears a fine portrait of the author engraved by Scriven after Girodet. The two early London editions are extremely scarce, especially in this condition.

A community cookbook in service of the Cottage Hospital with a preface in verse with four stanzas. The recipes are attributed and begin with a section of "Spanish Receipts" led with Delfina de la Guerra's Albondigas de Pescado made with barracuda or sea bass. Other sections include Soup Fish oysters and shell fish Meats Vegetables Eggs Entrees Turkey chicken etc. Salad Breads Cake Cookies Puddings and pies Desserts and ices Pickles Preserves and jellies Drinks Candy Diets for invalids Chafing dish Miscellaneous and Menus. The preserves section is interesting in that it leans towards citrus and contains a range of marmalades. The menus include several from the magnificent Potter Hotel. The photographic plates depict classic Santa Barbara scenes: the Old Mission the Potter Hotel the waterfront the Potter Hotel the Santa Barbara Country Club the Cliff Drive and more.
